Weekly Roadrunner Update 5/2

Hey Roadrunners!

Great week of Roadrunner sailing! The Green Fleet braved heavy air on Saturday and got some practice in the cove on both Picos and Optis. They all did a great job– especially the Opti sailors: Gus Gamble, Ben Peel, Sam Peel, and Jules Bettler. Thank you to all the volunteers this week who helped us to have a safe and effective practice despite winds gusts of 25+ knots: Stephanie Froelich, Dave Gamble, Polly Peel, Bill Records, and Trey Clawson who took the kayak out for capsize recovery and additional coaching. Thank you also to the parents who helped out at Thursday's practice and the Abrams family for coming out to Free Sail. 

Thursday's Beginners/Basics practice will be at it's usual time from 4:00 to 6:30 this week. 

I will be out of town for the rest of the weekend. However, Bill Records will be holding a practice for the Green Fleet (and any Sunfish/Laser sailors) on Saturday from 1:30 to 4:00. We have been doing a lot of windward-leeward racing lately so in preparation for the Turnback Canyon Regatta, Bill will be working with the junior sailors on triangle courses. Please RSVP as usual! 

There will be NO Free Sail Sunday this weekend. The next Free Sail will be May 13th. 

The schedule for the remainder of May is below. Please note that we will be having an Opti start for the Turnback Canyon Regatta May 26th and 27th. This should be a very fun weekend and a great way to gain some racing experience so I hope all AYC Opti sailors take advantage and sign on up. We have extended the invitation to other clubs in the area, so there should be some competition! On the 27th, the afternoon of Turnback Day 2, the Roadrunners will be holding a fundraiser, grilling hamburgers and hotdogs. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact me.
