Hi everyone,

Just been advised of an opportunity in Brighton. Here's the text:

Rules and Regs bursary

We have a bursary of £600 for a writer to be ‘embedded’ in the Rules and Regs residency programme at the Nightingale, Brighton.

Rules and Regs is an artists' development residency programme. While focused firmly on process, it is not open-ended, rather it is a development process through making new work. Artists bring no project to the residency but are presented with a set of rules by the curator/s on the first day of the month-long programme. These are group rules, devised by the curator/s in response to the practices of the artists. The rules form a challenge to explore new ways of working – a catalyst to stimulate critical self-examination. Artists then spend the month making new work in response to the rules. Each artist will make their own work, with all four pieces shown at two public exhibition/performances (29 and 30 June).

The writer will be expected to observe the process of the residency and ideally attend key dates including: residency launch (4 June), ‘outside eye’ session (week of 18 June - exact date tbc), seminar and networking event (afternoon 29 June) and public exhibitions/ performance evening (29 or 30 June).

As the bursary is all-inclusive candidates outside of South East England and London might wish to consider travel time and cost before applying.

There is an expectation of at least two pieces of writing on different aspects of the residency programme, perhaps exploring the process involved, the impact of the R&R model on the artists, critique of the resulting works, the seminar etc.

To apply email inte...@a-n.co.uk by 5pm Monday 14 May with a short statement (max 200 words) expressing your interest in this opportunity.

For more information on R&R, see www.rulesandregs.org

This opportunity is subject to final funding approval.
