Back then it existed as a hacked Papervision source, and was developed with one idea in mind - to overcome Papervision's shortcomings. Since then things have escalated to the point now where we no longer measure success with a Papervision yardstick. ;)
Thanx go out to all involved, and everyone on the list for being part of an amazing community group that produces some of the best 3d content on the web - the rest of the year looks set to be a very interesting time...
