On the AVIDdirector-M2M you need to enter your GPRS carrier's APN (Access Point Name) in the M2MApp.ini file so it will know how to communicate with the carrier. Each carrier has a unique APN name, and often a unique SMSC (Short Messaging Service Center) number if SMSs are used for sending/receiving data. Also a few carriers require unique user names and passwords to access their APNs.
CDMA and other wireless carriers don't use APNs but other mechanisms to validate the users or setup data access.
