I wrote 3 scripts for LaTeX expressions I'm using while editing HTML with
MathJax.
1. "LaTeX equation" produces an equation environment with the selected

I can see what the script does. What I was asking is how you:

If I add my script to the KDE launcher menu, I can assign a keyboard

Sure - I realized after I sent that message that I forgot to include a
piece of information.
The script reads the data to be copied from a file.
In the case of my example, that file is called sig.
I just mapped that script to Ctrl+1 from the keyboard short cut settings.

I know it's a bit off topic, but could you expand your answer a bit?
When does this script run? How is it associated with Ctrl-1?
I have xclip and xdotool installed, but haven't studied or tired them yet.

For what it is worth, I wrote a really simple script to paste the most commonly used phrases via a key combination.

xclip -in -selection c /home/john/scripts/xclip-scrip ts/sig
xdotool key ctrl+v

This pastes my signature for example, when I press Ctrl+1

Well. I posted my message because I need help to learn how to SCRIPT.

work. Last autokey-users group messsage are recent so it seems the soft

I just now tried version 0.90.4-0 in Ubuntu 12.04 and I see that it is not working.
Autokey picked up some old phrases I had from my last attempt (although I thought I had removed those).
The first two worked, I was happy to see that my address worked Gruvrisv�gen. The � had caused problems in the past.

I need to have common shortcuts on my mouse like "shift+right click" when I

They solved it by updating scripting.py. Download it on

Can I use Autokey lib to make a program directly in Python and take
benefits from Autokey capabilities? How? I have Autokey installed on my

I can't install Autokey on the target PC and I wanna make a program in

That's a start. However, we still don't know whether it was autokey-gtk
or autokey-qt and what version it is (without looking into the Quantal
repositories).

You can get the version from konsole with the following command:
dpkg -s autokey-gtk | grep 'Version'
(substitute -qt for -gtk, if that's what you installed.)

Please run your version of AutoKey from a terminal in logging mode and
provide the output to us along with the AutoKey version you are running
and the source of the particular phrase or macro you were running. Then,

Hi. I have autokey-qt 0.90.4 working on RHEL 6.3. I couldn't build the
gtk version at all; I think there's a version of autokey you could build on
Centos6/RHEL6, but not sure what that is (but it would be very old). It
works ok, although there are occasionally some display issues.

Okay, I think I managed to get it working properly. The only problem
left is arranging for the file to be opened on startup with access to
the autokey internals. he only thing I can think of is calling
run_script, which I obviously don't have access to. Is there a way to

It sounds like an exception is being thrown. Start autoekey from the
terminal with:

autokey-gtk -l 2>&1 > ~/autokey.log

After the problem occurs, paste the last 50 or so lines on the
~/autokey.log.

This is failing here because you need to run "python setup.py install" [1].
It's trying to execute the python code using /bin/sh, since there is no
shebang in the setup script.

Hi,
Thanks for fixing it.
I had found a hack around the problem.
Instead of doing send-keys I just copy it to clipboard and paste it like
this:

import mj_google_translate as gt

This way it works for any character set.
The only downside is its copied to the clipboard.

That's weird. Could that mean that if I uninstall zenity (which I was
planning to do as soon as I converted all my scripts to yad) that yad
will break on my system or is it just a quirk of systems not running
gnome or KDE? I thought yad was an independent fork of zenity and so
wouldn't need the original code base from the actual zenity package.

I don't know any specifics, but my first guess would be timing.

Try adding:
import time
at the top of your script and
time.sleep(2.0)
after your system.exec_command()
That should give Thunderbird some time to wake up and be ready to listen
to your next key presses.

You may have sent them so fast that Thunderbird never saw them at all.
