Hi,

I have been happily running Autokey on Ubuntu for a while now, and a while ago (couple of weeks?), it completely stopped working. The icon no longer  displays in the Gnome Panel.

I tried rebooting, downgrading to 0.82.2-0~natty1, then downgrading to the version from the Ubuntu repository. Still no go.

Ideas on how I can get it running again would be very welcome!

Best
  Frank

When running autokey-gtk the output is:

I had a slightly similar experience, the solution was to completely
uninstall and remove autokey, and download from project page.
http://code.google.com/p/autokey/

The install instructions are easy to follow, and now its working very
well again.

Hope this helps,
Fred

Thanks your help.

I tried:

sudo apt-get remove autokey-gtk
sudo apt-get install autokey-gtk

And am still getting the same result.

Have you attempted to compile and install from the source code?

Frank,

You need to remove autokey-gtk but don't reinstall it through apt-get instead you need to physically set your browser to https://launchpad.net/~cdekter/+archive/ppa and follow the instructions given under "read about installing" which are:

  1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cdekter/ppa
  2. sudo apt-get update
  3. sudo apt-get install autokey-qt
Note: that Chris announced he was stopping production on the gnome branch in favor of the kde branch. But that doesn't mean autokey won't function since you'll be pulling in the kde dependencies it uses which isn't much. See post https://groups.google.com/d/topic/autokey-users/HgZ_rmpWNJM/discussion.

Trust me that it doesn't pull in as many dependencies as you might think, very few in fact and it will work.

:)

Actually... I decided to bring the Gnome branch up to date several weeks back :) So you can stick with autokey-gtk if you are using GNOME/GTK based environment.

For running in Natty, make sure that autokey-common is also downgraded to 0.82.2. I mistakenly uploaded 0.90 to Natty and it won't work there.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Downgrading autokey-common did the trick.
