Another "Installation" section for the User Manual for everyone to
review.

Don't be afraid to make comments, good, bad or incoherent. Chris and
I have the same problem in that we both have spent so many years
working in Linux that we can not imagine what a new user would need
to know in order to install or use AutoKey'. We also understand that
new users will have a difficult time explaining what they don't
understand.

Besides I need help with my English (I flunked it in High School...)

How to re-import pre-v0.80 .json files

AutoKey version 0.08.x will automatically import and convert a version
0.71.x or earlier autokey.json files to the new format.

The following instructions assume that you already have a running
version of AutoKey .80.x installed

1. Quit AutoKey and make sure the AutoKey icon is not in the
"Notification Area" or "System Tray".

2. If you have created scripts for version 0.80.x and you want to
preserve your current scripts and phrases "COPY" the ~/.config/autokey/
data folder to somewhere else in your home directory for safekeeping.

3. Then delete these 2 files in the original folder: ~/.config/autokey/
autokey.json and ~/.config/autokey/autokey.json~

4. If you want to re-import the backup file created by a previous
upgrade to version .80.x you need to rename ~/.config/autokey/
autokey.json <oldver> to ~/.config/autokey/autokey.json. In my case
the file to be renamed was named "autokey.json0.71.2"

5. If you want to use a previous backup or copy of autokey.json that
you made or one from a different computer, delete ~/.config/autokey/
autokey.json <oldver> and then copy in the version you want to
convert.

6. The first time you start AutoKey it will automatically import the
older autokey.json file and convert it to the new version .80 format.

7. Now your newly converted and backed up scripts and phrases can be
copied, moved, replaced or merged as described in the section; "Moving
AutoKey scripts and phrases from computer to computer".

Replies inline. Mostly punctuation. Looks good.

convert version (omit "a" because "files" is plural)

add "." or ":" after "installed"

.2". (period at end of sentence)

Moving AutoKey Scripts and Phrases from Computer to Computer

Style note: Titles usually have almost all the words capitalized.
Depending on how picky you want to get, it's more correct not to
capitalize most of the "glue" words.
I never know how to get this right, so I looked it up.

BTW, stackexchange has a whole bunch of great forums covering everything
from Linux to Photography.

Hi Joe.

Thanks again for the help.

I made all the corrections you suggested.

I will check out the stackexchange link. Thanks for it. I do try to
follow style conventions (when I know about them) but when trying to
document "How to Do It" stuff I will drop stylistic conventions for
clarity if I think they interfere with understanding the
information...

These are raw text files that I plan on formating prior to posting on
the project hosting wiki for viewing and download. Right now I am not
sure what is "allowed" in the way of formatting but I hope that links,
code blocks, and headers are permitted at the very least.

This week I hope to finish the Installation section and post it on the
wiki so I should know real soon what formating I can use.

I feel the same way about style. Use enough of it to keep things clear
(especially grammar), but don't let it get in the way of clarity or self
expression.
