NEWS!

Caroline Pignat has won the 2009 Governor General’s Literary Award for children’s text for her novel Greener Grass. “It’s incredible,” said Brid McDonald, principal at All Saints Catholic High School in Kanata, where Caroline teaches. "Pignat is an inspiration to her students, she said. “(Pignat’s) a very giving and humble person and an exceptional teacher,” said McDonald. “We’re so proud of her.”

A Royal Little Pest
, the first children's picture book by Anita Reynolds MacArthur and illustrated by Karen Roy, is the recipient of the distinguished "Great Books" award for 2010, as issued by the Canadian Toy-Testing Council! Congratulations Anita and Karen!

Mark your Calendars! A Royal Little Pest team (author Anita Reynolds MacArthur and illustrator Karen Roy) will be at Chapters in Ajax for a book signing on Saturday, November 28 at 1 pm. All teachers and librarians are welcome. Don't forget to bring your kids too! Please pass the message along to your family, friends, and colleagues.

Monique Polak's YA novel What World Is Left (Orca) has been awarded the Quebec Writers' Federation Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature. The novel is based on the story of Monique's mother's imprisonment in a Nazi concentration camp.  Here's what the jurors had to say about the book: "Polak takes a different and sensitive subject and weaves it into a heartbreaking but ultimately life-affirming story."
Monique will be in Toronto at the end of February for the Ontario Library Association Superconference. She will also be available to travel to Ontario from mid-May until the end of the school year.

One Peace: True Stories of Young Activists (Orca), by Janet Wilson, was unanimously chosen as the winner of the national Children’s Roundtable Information Book Award. It’s also included in The Best Children’s Books of the Year by the Bank Street College of New York.
