Meet the Illustrator: Robin Baird Lewis
One of the most common questions an illustrator gets asked is "when did you begin to be an illustrator?" In Robin's case, there are three possible answers to that question.
1.) when she was four years old and her distracted mother plunked her down with some paper to draw pictures;
2.) when she was fifteen and commissioned to create posters for a local field regiment recruitment campaign, or;
3.) when she was first "published" in the early 1980s in the early Canadian Children's Annuals followed by Red is Best.
The real answer is that Robin has always illustrated. Her notebooks throughout school were covered in marginal pictures and cues so that her stronger visual ability could help her study.
A second very popular question is "Where do you get your ideas?" The answer is a simple one. "All around me," replies Robin.
Tolerant friends and family members commonly find they are subject to inclusion in Robin's illustrations. After all, she reasons, why not liven up the task of drawing a crowd scene with people you know? And so her talents for caricature and capturing likenesses have come into play regularly for virtually all of her illustrated assignments.
After a lengthy career teaching applied visual arts and English in secondary schools, Robin took a risky early retirement (or escape as she prefers to see it) in order to be more flexible in family obligations while maintaining an involvement in her local arts communities. Freelance work now shares time with workshops on mask making, stage prop design, make-up, book-making and creative problem solving which she designs and leads as an arts consultant & literacy advocate. She has developed a musical craft programme for after-school enrichment classes, organized & directed summer arts camps which in turn have grown into a role as a co-ordinator of local children's drama instruction defining their motto appropriately as "We train children for the stage of their lives!"
In all of her endeavours, Robin's passion to Fight Evil With Creativity remains resolute. _______________________________________________________

THINK! Brain Teasers, Word Puzzles, Logic Problems.
Answer to last week's puzzle: In each case, moving the first letter to the end of the word will give you the original word when read backwards.
This week's puzzle:
Within each set of the following words, there are a pair of smaller words. Insert "&" between them to create a familiar phrase.
For example, "Thighbone/Swallowtail" conceals "High & Low."
1. Gulliver/Clearness
2. Tragicomedy/Pentagon
3. Chinchilla/Magdalene
4. Terrestrial/Ecoterrorist
5. Thundershower/Intellectual
