Hello dear Colleagues,

What would be the best way to get graphics that are embedded inside
topics (screen captures) to display in HTML Pages output and Print
output, but not in CHM output, preferably without having to dissect
the topics, because I have thousands of them ;-) ??

Background info:
We are going to start providing our documentation on CD in both Print
and HTML versions. In addition, we single-source most of the same
topics in CHM files (organized slightly differently). Until now, I
have had screen capture File Objects set to publish in Print only, and
not in the CHMs. These new HTML versions are actually just the same
book objects that I created for Print, published into HTML Pages
format.

Have a great day,

Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Make a new publishing profile that is called CHM no graphics
In the profile, add an exclude rule to exclude all graphics based on X or Y
graphics template that you hopefully used when you made these graphics. If
you did not assign a specific graphic template to them, you could also
exclude based on release state or folder, but via template exclusion would
be easier. You can also batch assign a specific graphics template to a large
quantity of graphics. (I always encourage people during training to have at
least two embedded graphics templates -icons and screens so that you can
distinguish between inline images and screen captures should you ever want
to suddenly exclude one group such as in this case)
Publish CHM using this publishing profile.

Most importantly, smile and have fun while you realize you just saved
yourself a ton of manual of work!
Cheers,

Miriam

Thanks, Miriam, that's perfect!

I do have separate templates for screen captures and in-line images.
So I am assuming that I should change those screen capture file object
templates to publish in all formats, and then the Publishing Profile
overrides that for CHM?

Yes, exactly.
I love publishing profiles for so many reasons...but this is definitely one
of the top reasons for sure!

Have fun!

Hi again,

On the Filters tab of the Publishing Profile I can only exclude topics
- it won't let me exclude file objects. Any other ideas?

Thanks again,

Debbie

Sorry..my machine died yesterday and i forgot to get back to you. Actually , having thought about it, just make a variant of the template you use for those graphics..and turn them off in the variant. Use that variant when you want to publish to chm. I was thinking about something from a beta i was working with when i answered you last time. Sorry!
