ROCKCLIMBING (Bouldering) 24th April 2008 – Broken Foot, Kangaroo
Point, QLD.

A 25 year old male with 6 months experience was bouldering along the
base of the wall, ranging in height from 0.5 – 2.0 metres. The man is
described as relatively fit, and weighing around 65 Kg. The weather
was clear and sunny, with a planned duration of 2 hours bouldering.
Upon reaching a difficult section of rock, the man decided to jump
down.  He jumped from approximately 1m in height and landed on both
feet, before feeling pain in his right foot. His foot swelled up
immediately, so he was taken to the hospital for X-rays. The result
was a broken heel and fractured tibia, which required a metal plate
with several screws in both the heel and tibia. A 6-month recovery is
expected.
Comments from those involved - Use spotters and mats at all times. Use
a controlled descent if possible; even a fall from only 1m can have
severe consequences.
