There's some pretty active cells cranking away over parts of NE Texas/SE Oklahoma today where the SPC has the area under a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms.

Attached is some radar imagery of some of the more severe cells approaching Fort Smith just over the border of Texas in Arkansas. The numerous white pixels are recent lightning strikes, the thin white polygon shapes are the forecast track uncertainty of the flagged cells. Infrared satellite imagery is in the background.

Also attached is a forecast lightning threat map generated by the High Res Rapid Refresh model and forecast radar echoes (composite reflectivity).

Subject: [austpacwx] US Severe Thunderstorm Event Index has redone their site:

Folks:
Thought this might interest ya'll, that the US Severe Thunderstorm Event Index has redone their site, making it easier to get at very interesting archived information (including the various Meso Discussions, Watches & Public Outlooks for that particular day--which is under those headings in left menu--scroll down).

For example: The tornado that hit Mena on April 9, 2009 is in Meso Discussion #0415 & #0418, in Watch #0123 & #0125 (on the radar image, the southernmost part of the T-storm line spawned the tornado which hit Mena) and Public Outlooks: PWO (1123z).

Happy Looking~~~David Powell

Ken & All: Fort Smith is just across the border of Oklahoma in Arkansas ;)
Had some good thunder rumbles here (power went off in spots in town from lightning strikes) at the Pacific cold front came through here on Friday (I copped 1.80"/45.7mm rain). We don't get that many Thunderdays here in Winter, but I've already copped 3 such days as this Winter has been obscenely mild (so mild here that I have jonquils popping up in a few patches in the yard)!

Kind Wishes~~~David Powell
