Hi Gavin,
we have found that the Davis consoles and Weatherlink dataloggers can be very sensitive to current fluctuations especially with anything which uses a remote controller...eg: central heating, shredders, printers (Clyve's used to stop communicating, not when you turned the printer on, but only when you turned it off).
W got around the problem when away by installing a remote log in program (
www.logmein.com) on the laptop / ipad or iphone for hen we are travelling so that I can log in a reboot the computer from anywhere in the world...but we found that when we are away and no-one is using the computer or anything in the house, the weather station ran without fail except when there were power outages in town. To get around this problem, you go into your BIOS settings and set your computer to wake for all instances, this means that if you have a power outage, as soon as there is a trickle feed of power back through the circuits, the computer will wake, allowing you to log in from elsewhere to restart the weather station.
This system has worked brilliantly for us for the last 2 years, and I can reboot the computer and restart the weather program using my iphone as well.
Please let me know if I can give you further details. I haven't worked out how to fix the problem, but have worked out how to get around it. It's a fairly common problem unfortunately and happens with the wireless models...
