Who knew you could use new.dallas.sbcglobal.net from any host (not on the
AT&T network)? I can connect to the above news server from Prismnet, at
least. It didn't used to be that way.

Use your master or any of your subaccount login account credentials.
The ones you use for email (if you even use their email), not your
modem login/password.
I don't know about UVerse, but it works for DSL.
