My son Aidan's birthday is coming up and we're considering hiring
a "balloon artist" for some entertainment -- you know, someone who
twists balloons into funny animal shapes, swords, etc. If they do
other stuff (juggling, face-painting, a magic act, whatever) that's
a plus. Although I'm seriously uninterested in any BA's who endeavor
to incorporate their love of Jesus into the act.

Recommendations?

Sure. E-mail Mott Leonino at mot...@hotmail.com and tell her you're a
friend of mine. Mott books all sorts of performers for all sorts of events.
She's also a talented face painter, mask maker and costumer.

Cheers,

Dusty

As a suggestion for a party activity, if you have a Polaroid camera or
digital that you can print from your computer, have the kids make frames
from Popsicle sticks (you can get these at any major hobby store) and some
glue and beads and/or paints or markers. Then tape or glue the pictures to
the back of the frame. If you have a digital camera, then you will have the
pictures of everyone for latter use in a scrapbook.

If you use Popsicle sticks as opposed to tongue depressors, you will need 8
sticks per frame. two side-by-side in each direction. With tongue
depressors, you only need one. If you want to get fancy, glass beads can be
found for $1 a bag and can be very pretty or mosaic tiles and chips can also
be used.

The nice thing about this activity is 1) It will take up a lot of time, 2)
it gives the kids a memento that they will probably keep longer than most
goody bag items, 3) its fairly inexpensive to do

We did for a booth at a carnival and several kids did it more than once,
coming back for one with a friend or a group. Everyone loves it, including
the parents.

Check under Clowns in the Yellow pages:

Rik Gern, aka Bonzo Crunch, Fool at Large, does a comedy magic act for
kids and also does face-painting and probably balloon animals too. I've
seen his act three times -- once at a kids' summer movie camp and twice at
birthday parties (both boys'), and the kids always love his show. Really
zany and fun. He also does cool dragon face-painting. Give him a call at
912-0067.

I saw Chicken Dog at a kids' theater event last week and wasn't very
impressed. It wasn't the best venue (he was the opening act for a
storyteller, and kids were filing in throughout his entire show), but he
was too focussed on the animals instead of the kids, and the animals
weren't at their best.

Doodle Bug is professional, but she's a lower-energy show than Bonzo
Crunch. If you've got a bunch of boys, you'll probably want someone
zanier and someone you know can be easily heard.

My daughter saw Skittles at a birthday party once, and said she liked her,
but didn't offer any specifics.

Thanks for remembering me, but I am strictly a charity case.
http://www.cactus.org/~ronr/clown.html.

I left a message today a T. Meyer's WEB site about local clowns.
Most of the ones that I've worked with only do charity, EG shiners.

Sorry,
