When you get done, mourn the victims of all totalitarian depots, not
just the ones that die during the liberations.
Then, when you manage to unwring those tear-stained paws, rejoice that
there is perhaps a future generation which will no longer bear the yoke
you seem to wish on them.
---I will mourn the Iraqi children, not just those who are dead, but
those who have been blinded, crippled, disfigured, or traumatized, like
the bombed children of Afghanistan who, as reported by American
visitors, lost their power of speech.---
You won't mourn them, you'll exploit them. You'll publicly writhe in
guilt, as though somehow your self-flaggelation is supposed to impress
us. Shall we call for a medic? The pain must be so very intense.
--The American media has not given us a full picture of the human
suffering caused by our bombing; for that, we need to read the foreign
press---
The "American Media" is a myth. "American Media" means "way more
information than any human can possibly digest" at the fingertips of the
most enlightened and informed society ever to exist. This moronic
assesment that most equals less than ever is typical of by-the-book
Marxist assholes with a trust fund and cognitive misfires.
----We will get precise figures for the American dead, but not for the
Iraqis. Recall Colin Powell after the first Gulf War, when he reported
the "small" number of U.S. dead, and when asked about the Iraqi dead,
Powell replied: "That is really not a matter I am terribly interested
in."----
Those that lose people in the war count their dead. Perhaps they should
feel compellled to report loss to those seeking to exploit the sad
realities in order to further an ideological agenda.
Which, oddly enough, always ends up on the side of those that kill the
most. In that tiny little realm of compassion, it's presumably better to
lose thousands per year under a tyrant, than lose thousands in one year
to end the reign of the tyrant, eh? This guy sucks at math.
----As a patriot, contemplating the dead GIs, should I comfort myself
(as, understandably, their families do) with the thought: "They died for
their country."---
That would be a start, asshole, because it's that damn simple. Step two
is to pack all that tearful compassion into the Volvo, head down to a
family that has lost someone in war, and cry on their shoulders. You'll
feel so much better.
----If so, I would be lying to myself. Those who die in this war will
not die for their country. They will die for their government. They will
die for Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld. And yes, they will die for the
greed of the oil cartels, for the expansion of the American empire, for
the political ambitions of the President. They will die to cover up the
theft of the nation's wealth to pay for the machines of death.-----
They will die, you will lament it all, shake your head in dismayed
disgust, and poor another dram of Chivas... and await that check for
three dollars and ninety-five cents from tompain.com.
Nice raise, BTW :)
----Tom Paine used the word "patriot" to describe the rebels resisting
imperial rule.----
Who first used the word "idiot"?

"I shall not die without a hope that life and liberty are on steady advance.
The flames kindled on July 4, 1776, have spread over too much of the globe
to be extinguished by the feeble engines of despotism." ---Thomas Jefferson
