Thanks, Kim
Isn't it fun? :-) We're undertaking a similar project, and have also thought
about retaining a designer. The only name I know offhand is Jill Nokes. She did
some of the landscape design for Garden-Ville, or so an employee told me, and
her work is pictured in the Wasowski book "Native Texas Gardens". NTG has a
list of native landscape architects in the back, and contains sections on the
works of several.... great place to start.

I asked this very same question a while back with little response. I
went out to dejanews and found multiple references for Sheryl McLaughlin.
She consults for $75/hr, and the plans cost $30/hr. She's very easy to
work with, though I haven't seen the plans yet. She calls back. She
will develop an independent plan that you can execute or put out to
landscape contractors for bids. She is associated with Kevin Wood
landscaping, but you don't have to use them. Sheryl hosts the Austin
Gardener on KLBJ AM 590 Sunday mornings at 10:00am.
Another reference that I got in a circuitous way was for Katherine
Truesdale if all you need is a plant consultation if you don't
need stonework or grading. Here's the quote that I got from
a landscape designer:
> ... As long as you are not in need of any
> stonework or grading, you can call Katherine Truesdale for a plant
> consultation. She is really good and knows the best deer resistant
> plants. Like me, she incorporates as many native plants as possible
> into her designs. She can then install the plants and prep your beds
> for you. She does everything organically. Her phone number is
> 912-1579.
