Bob,

I had the opposite experience at the store. I brought my teenage
son (very picky). There was no pressure to buy any shoes. The
prices were low on the shoes on sale. The people at the front of
the store ran upstairs to the warehouse on top of the store 6-8
times to find different sizes of different shoes for him to try
on.

I did get approached about buying a tennis shoe cleaning product
but only after they asked if they could clean my dirty yard sneakers
for free (the cleaner worked great and I bought it).

All in all my experience was a good one but I was not looking for
a high dollar cross trainer or specialty shoe, just a pair of Nikes
for my son to wear to school.

Personally, I stay the heck out of that South Dallas, errr, I mean
North Austin Yuppie filled Suburban hellhole of bad traffic, overdone
women and evil attitudes.

The only way I found out about this store was a close friend's 9 yr old
son. He insisted we go there to buy the latest, jazziest, most ugly
shoes I ever saw.

They did not have them, we beat a hasty retreat back to south Central
Austin, God's Country, and What Do You Know, they had same shoes at
Rooster Andrews!

I was able to spend MY money at a LOCAL business, supporting the LOCAL
economy, and possibly would not have even had to venture into that
miserable craphole that northwest Austin has become.

Yuppies, Stay up there, that really is the beautiful part of town. You
don't want to go south, nothing but bubbas down here,......

AMEN!
The only good prices are the "discontinueds" which are stacked by the
front door- and are usually only available in sizes for elves or giants.
The staff jumps on you as you pass through their "zone".
The only clothes that are bargains are "1994 Olympics" t shirts.
If you do make it to the huge racks of shoes, and find something marked
"sale"- THEY NEVER HAVE THAT STYLE IN YOUR SIZE! It seems like they just
write down your size, walk in the back, stand there going BWAAAA_HAAAA!,
then come back out and inform you with a sad face "I'm sorry, we're out
of that size in the $29 special. We DO have your size in the ATOMIC
WONDER for only $149, though".
I'll never set feet back in the place......

Bubbas that use the Net and use terms like Ciao????? What the heck
has happened to Austin? I used to go to bars in South Austin where
that type of "bubba" would have gotten a hole stomped in him. ;-)

What happened to Austin? Well, a damn lot of Dallasites moved here, El

Carnivore Shut Down, Stevie died, Kelso's the only good thing in our
newspaper, The highway department cut down all the Oaks & flattened all
the Hills, drove Polk's feed out of business, and Using the net beats
the hell outta choppin' cedar for money.

As far as holes stomped, I dunno, the fellas at IV's don't pay me no
mind when I try to sound all high falutin & silly.

Because, as you know, if you can't make fun in South Austin, there
ain't no fun to be made.

Arn't we suppose to have an annual tug of war across the river to vent
these north vs south hostilities? Someone call John Kelso. This is an
emergency.
I mean, it's hard enough selling those "On Earth As It Is In Austin"
bumper stickers.

Bob,

I think you missed my point. I also, hate Mountain Juniper (cedar)
they are gross, nasty trees. However, my point was that working with a
computer pays me a lot better than driving around with my chainsaw
cutting wood.

anyhow, the best comment on this thread was that it should not really be
here, and I am all for stopping it now...

Some people think chopping down the Water Sucking Brush Scum we
affectionately call Cedars and replacing them with some indiginous

trees would be a Great Idea... Cedar trees outcompete more favorable
species of browse, forbs and grass for light, water and nutrients.
Livestock forage suffers in quality and quantity. Watershed quality is

threatened and less rain reaches the soil because of a closed cedar
canopy. Cedars rock..

Yeah, let's keep all these freaking Cedars..
