My wife and I were talking about Xmas cookies last night. Neither of us
feel that we're up to preparing a variety of cookies for the holidays, but
we'd like to have perhaps four or five varieties in reasonable quantities
for the holidays.

Any suggestions on where we can find them? We <don't> want those we saw at
HEB last year nor Pillsbury Bake-and-Serve. Is CM a good source?

Thanks in advance...

Tom

Cookies are so labor-intensi8ve! I would highly recommend Sweetish Hill on
West Sixth. You're not talking cheap here, but you are getting something
wonderful for your money. What's available that's specifically "Xmas" I'm
not sure--probably some of their sugar cookies. Ginger cookies use the very
freshest spices and plenty of them. The ginger cookies are usually baked in
the shape of gingerpeople, but take on various other shapes in accordance
with seasonal holidays. There are black-and-white butter cookes (chocolate
and plain sliced from a roll before baking). An outfit called Penny's
Pastries makes excellent shortbread cookies that are to be found at times at
such places as Whole Foods and Central Markets.

they do have lots of imported stuff every year (and Ritter
Sport on sale ;-) but I find the bulk cookies at Sun Harvest
pretty tasty and affordable year-round (as is most of their
bulk stuff -- and the chocolate-covered expresso/coffee beans
and the 'expensive' chocolate covered almonds right next to
them are a special, addictive treat!)

otherwise, you could get the cookies which Tam sells year
round at Tam's @8222 N. Lamar, and her bouche de Noel is a
special treat at Xmas...

The marranitos at Fiesta are really quite good--made on the spot.

Perhaps Texas French Bread (several locations, I'm familiar with the
one @ NE corner 32nd and ______________)

I'll pass on those...

...but Inge of (the sadly missed) Cafe Mozart made some this
week (some of a type I last had when my grandma made them)...

...and I "got lucky" last night (some neighbors are definitely
better than others... :-)

I considered asking her if she'd consider making some for sale
to the austin.food crowd... ;-)
