I hope everyone is in good health most importantly as well as happy.
Those are the things that really matter and count in life.
My other purpose in this post is to invite anyone who wishes to
participate in a newsgroup dedicated to the X-Factor show, worldwide,
to join in a new newsgroup, rec.arts.tv.x-factor (ratx-f).
This is an unmoderated group open to all. As it is officially
chartered to cover X-Factor shows throughout the world, it is
anticipated that many from other countries will participate,
particularly the U.K., U.S., and Australia. As the U.S. version will
concurrently be shown in many nations, on a very slightly delayed
time-table, it is expected that many people throughout the world will
participate in ratx-f.
I believe, and would like the creation of rec.arts.tv.x-factor to
offer a new start and a fresh beginning to anyone, everywhere, who
wants one. In other words: past feuds, flamewars, individual
disagreements, etc., with anyone and everyone, all have the
opportunity to start fresh in ratx-f. Everyone who participates in
it, from my perspective, will be coming in with a clean and fresh
slate. I consider it a golden opportunity to have a great newsgroup
on a topic of interest among many nations. There
are no moderators in ratx-f so there is no "enforcement" of any kind.
I am not the netcop (just the guy who made an effort to get the
newsgroup approved and created) and being unmoderated, no one can be
that. I specifically requested a non-moderated group when I made my
proposal to the Big 8 Management Board for their approval.
It will also be open to new people throughout the world who have an
interest in "X-Factor" whether it is the version from any of the
twenty plus countries that have their own X-Factors. I anticipate it
will center however on the U.S., U.K. and Australian editions.
The "create code" went out August 15th. Anytime after the 16th, you
can ask your server if they will pick up and carry the ng for you, if
they don't automatically do so. Automatic newsgroup pickups are the
rule rather than the exception with most new newsgroups that are
officially approved and created by what is known as the "Big 8
Management Board," or "B8MB"as compared to the creation of alt groups
which are seldom automatically picked up by most news servers for a
variety of reasons.
The B8MB is responsible for the creation and deletion of all Usenet
groups with the exception of the alt groups. A newsgroup that is
approved and created by them is likely to be picked up by over half of
the news servers and ISPs that carry Usenet, automatically, after the
"create" code is distributed. Alt groups, OTOH, are seldom picked up
automatically by most servers and usually have to be asked, one by
one/piecemeal to carry a new ng. Additionally, the approval of the
B8MB is looked upon by most servers and ISP owners/managers as an
official stamp that they know they can trust to be a new newsgroup
with proven, documented interest and that they can trust to accept
without hesitation in most cases. This is unlike the alt hierarchy
because alt groups, have no official elected leadership nor are they
as highly regarded as the: comp, humanities, misc, news, rec, sci, soc
and talk hierarchies, are being the responsibilities of the B8MB.
That is why I decided to pursue a rec.arts.tv.x-factor (ratx-f) rather
than an alt group. Having an officially recognized hierarchy
comprised of openly elected management serves to open up the ng
creation process beyond a group of people who claim to lead the alt
groups but have not been elected by anyone. The B8MB have set
procedures for approving a new ng and they are applied equally and
fairly to all applications. There are no restrictions as to how long
a group must wait to apply for a ng, etc. What is required is a
definitive and clearly written proposal together with documented
public support and following the long standing guidelines for the
creation of any new newsgroup. It culminated earlier tonight in the
official approval message for rec.arts.tv.x-factor in the
news.groups.proposals newsgroup Message-ID:
<j21pu3$4bv$1...@news.albasani.net> which contains the full charter and
process timeline by which ratx-f was created, for anyone interested in
the process and how both practically and efficiently it is
accomplished by the B8MB.
In total, I put in no more than 1-2 hours working on the official
written proposal (which was easy to do according to the template
provided by the B8MB and whose members graciously assisted me in its
timely completion). Most importantly, by far, though for the creation
of ratx-f was the public support received from 9 individuals within 5
days of the proposal's submission. This generous public support was
far more important than any work product submitted to begin the formal
process. I thank all of these individuals for their posts in
news.groups.proposals. It is because of these kind folks that
rec.arts.tv.x-factor was created and why it was approved by B8MB
consensus without even the necessity of a vote in a very short period
of time. Their support was far more important and carried far greater
weight than the little time and effort required of me to submit the
required written documentation. Fans of X-Factor will always be
grateful to those individuals for their generous action.
"X-Factor," finally, has a dedicated
newsgroup for itself and that it is open to everyone who likes the
show and wants to discuss it. I hope activities like contests, etc.
will also become a mainstay of ratx-f, depending on whether those
folks who generously give of their time in managing them, will be
willing to do so for another show in its own specific newsgroup.
Many U.S. "X-Factor" shows are already "in the can" and will soon be
aired, starting in late September. I hope anyone, who has attended
these will offer to report on what they saw as well as provide their
opinions about their experiences. Like any newsgroup, ratx-f will
only be as good as its members and their contributions towards making
it an entertainingly interesting and friendly group. We welcome as
much news and discussion about the U.K. and other editions of X-F as
possible.
My desire is that ratx-f will, ultimately, lead to receiving B8MB
approval for specific and dedicated newsgroups for: SYTYCD (So You
Think You Can Dance) America's (and Britain's) Got Talent and
Dancing With The Stars (or as I believe you call it in the U.K.,
"Strictly Come Dancing"), in the future, along with any new reality
shows that get a significant amount of interest and followers. It
makes it as easy as possible for new people to find a specific ng for
a show that significantly interests them as atai does for Idol. Until
then, we can discuss all of these shows in rec,arts.tv.x-factor.
I hope to see anyone who wants to be "first generation members" so to
speak of rec.arts.tv.x-facto. There's a lot of interest throughout the
world for "X-Factor," and this newsgroup will provide a "home" for
those discussions. The door is open and everyone is welcome.
If anyone needs the newsgroup create code for their news server's
management/owner, please e-mail me at bob...@verizon.net and I will,
promptly, send it off to them with a copy to yourself.
If anyone has any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to
provide you with a timely response.
Thanks again, and nice to make your acquaintance.
