Governments can't *make* banks pass on any interest rate cut. The banks
will only do that if competition points in that direction.

Fucken hell, you inbred Lieberals ~must~ be slow learners. Didn't the
Rodent Party tell you: governments can't control banks or interest
rates.

John Koward had to learn that lesson repeatedly from 2004-2007. It
took a while, but eventually it sunk in. Then we kicked the Lieberals
out, and the Lying Rodent from his own seat too. Hahahahahahaha!!

Which is exactly what Turnbull proposed last year too!
Funny how the Liberals always say "don't do what we did, do what we say you
should do, not that we will if we ever get re-elected!"

Actually they could control a Bank and it's interest rates (and therefore
affect the others as well) before they sold off the Commonwealth Bank.
And naturally Bank profits, charges, fees and share prices have
*skyrocketed* since then. Not so customer service or satisfaction
unfortunately.

Of course that was policy for *both* parties.

The only thing we agree on is where you should post.

Of course. If you wish to post to alt.fuckwits, go ahead.

Are you suggesting that it would be a good thing if the Commonwealth (the
polity) were to own and run a not-for-profit trading bank?

They could boil you in oil if they wanted to legislate for it. And it was
constitutional to do so.

There is a constitutional bar on the acquisition of property without just
cause ie without paying compensation. Not much point in making banks pass
on an interest rate cut if the feds (ie the taxpayer) then had to pay
compensation to those banks. Hmmmm?
