A few answers come to mind, but they are of course speculatory. :)
> (1) Was Duane Barry abducted by the same people who took Scully?
I would say so, because it would appear that Duane Barry gave them Scully
instead of him. Either that, or the people who took Scully -were- a
different group, and DB only -thought- that he'd made the deal, when in
fact they were completely uninterested in him.

1) Maybe it was a group solely for women. I can see that happening; I know
of a few groups that would frown on if not downright veto any male
members. Not abductee groups, but the principle's the same.
2) Maybe all the male abductees in the X-Files universe don't -want- to
join a group because they don't want to admit that something's going on
that they can't handle.
3) (my favourite) The Abductors do different things to men than they do
to women. This explains why DB's implant was different to DS', and also
why there are no male members - the female members can't "spot" them like
they did Scully, because the connection (whatever it is) isn't there.

This one, I dunno. But, at night, if you turn the lights off your UFO,
it'd be hard to see; this is my understanding anyway. Similarly with
black helicopters that have no external lighting and some kind of
sound-muffling (I'm talking X-Files universe, okay? :)

Mind control devices? Sharing of implant functions (using his to implant
suggestions in his head) the same way Optus and Telecom used to share
(still do?) telephone cables?

Well, I don't think there are any -definite- answers (at least not from
what the show has given us, the viewers), but these are, I think,
reasonably plausible ones. Of course there will be god knows how many
more twists and turns, so they'll probably be completely impossible by
this time next season.

>(1) Was Duane Barry abducted by the same people who took Scully?
Probably. I think the difference might be that Barry's abductions were
part of a US-sanctioned experiment, but he was triggered active to kidnap
Scully as part of Doctor Zawa's (sp?) renegade experiment.
>(2) If so, why were his implants different (and don't say they were saline
>as opposed to silicone) and why were there no other men in the group that
>met with Scully in Nisei? Men were not even mentioned as being abductees

Ah, but how did Scully *find* the group, then? One of the women in
"Nisei" says "They killed George", or whoever, when Scully tells them why
she is there. The man who wound up dead with a pillowcase around his head
was a member of their chapter, which would seem to indicate that he was
one of the abductees.
As for why Barry's implants were different: whereas the chips implanted in
the women appeared to be monitoring devices, Barry shows a much more
serious level of psychosis. This could mean (a) he *needs* more implants
in order for the conspiracy to be able to successfully monitor him or (b)
those extra implants allow the conspiracy to control him to a limited
extent; i.e. they're set to 'send' rather than 'receive'.
>(3) How did Scully's abducters get her from the top of the mountain to
>wherever they took her so quickly, without anyone noticing a car going down

Hmm. This is trickier. Offhand I'd say Airwolf. Seriously, Mulder saw
*something* moving incredibly fast away from the site of the abduction.
It could have been a UFO loaned to the Japanese for their use; or it might
have been a very fast VTOL aircraft (the estimation is that Japanese
aircraft are at least a generation ahead of US fighters.)
>(4) If Duane Barry wasn't abducted by the same people who took Scully, how
>did Scully's abducters impel him to kidnap her and take her to where they
>were waiting?
Like I said above: Zama set the implants in his body to 'send', not
'receive'. If they can monitor all thought. surely they can, with a small
battery, send the correct electrochemicasl signals to fool the body's own
brain?
I think it'll be interesting to go back and look at "Ascension" in the
light of "731". Krycek's -- and CSM's -- actions in that context become
far more a case of desperate damage control and trying to find out who's
operating as a renegade out there.

Good point. I'd forgotten about that. I'll have to go and watch it again
to pick up exactly what was said.

Possibly Possibly Not. But if the rendezvous point was for him and
they got Scully instead??

Different Functions for different sexes. Was he not an ex FBI agent
which means he could have been used as soldier material.

Probably helicopter in whisper mode or even more advanced craft. Most
of the choppers were looking at the ground and not up anyway.

Wasn't the guy that sold the tape and was killed a member of the group?
Maybe women just yield more biologically interesting information than men,
or, if they were trying to produce alien human hybrids maybe they were
interested in looking for somewhere for the fetus to gestate (sp?) - they
can't just use a box!

Perhaps they were just telling Scully what she wanted to hear, a plausible
explanation that she could understand (Her idea of proof despite their
being little evidence!) as opposed to the truth. So maybe Scully was
abducted (either by aliens or by humans using a craft built using alien
technology) thus avoiding all the road blocks etc..

Gestates inside a living human host...these are your words...and has
concentrated acid for blood...whoops, wrong time frame. :) :) :)

Well, there was Stephen Zinzer, but he got fitted for a pillow-case, so maybe he
doesn't count.

Men don't go to support groups!! We are the strong sex, and we can
deal with our alien abduction experiences on our own!

Maybe they only need relatively few men? If they're taking semen
samples from male abductees, to impregnate female abductees with,
they could get enough sperm for perhaps thousands of women from
one guy. (This is assuming that human sperm is involved in the
process.)

But they were drilling Duane Barry's teeth. Hard to get sperm from

Maybe the aliens got their information on human reproduction from

It all begins to make sense! :p
Really.
I think the whole abduction-experiment thingy is a sort of a deal....
japenese and american governments, and little men with big heads.
There was mention of a deal in an episode last year. perhaps someone can fill
me in?
