Yeah, she's ranked about 13 or so. Baseliner. Blonde hair.

I'm just a tad sceptical about why one would choose Applemans or
(especially) Kornakova as their "favourite female sportsperson". They
haven't exactly set the world on fire with their Tennis, nor in the case of
Kornakova, her sportsmanship. Only leaves the one thing.

Doesn't anyone else find it sick that so many "men" leer so much over a
girl who hasn't even turned 16 yet?

Creepy.

No, not really, she (or they) may only be a kid(s) but so, wrt age
proximity, are most of the "men" that are naming her as "favourite
female sportsperson". Now someone who identified themselves as being
say 35 plus and indicating a 16 y.o as "favourite female sportsperson"
is, IMO, a bit creepy! D.O.M. brigade.

BTW anyone notice that favourite book, or what book(s) you're
currently reading, or favourite"auteur" were not questions asked?

I not only like Applemans for her looks, but for her personality and her
humility. She is a very humble and down to earth gal. Also she is a very
exciting tennis player.
But I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot most chicks would dig the
good looking guys like Craig Wing, ET, Kev Hardwick, or Ryan Girdler.

Tell the true story, you were practising in the nets, there was no
batsman, you bowled 30 wides in the time you hit the stumps 6 times,
so to make a good story, you said you got 6/30 :)

: NAME: Chris Russell

: AGE: Old enough to know better / 26

: COUNTRY OF BIRTH: UK

: OCCUPATION: My job title is Computer Officer: which seems to
mean everything from holding clinics for students to bring their PCs in
and fix to unix administration and most things in between. Fortunately
I'm more lazy than that seems to imply.

: FAVORITE TEAM: Bradford Bulls / Castleford Tigers. I've yet to see a
game between the two sides live. If they both make it to the Grand Final
this year I will probably bite the bullet and go having missed last years
(girlfriend's birthday).

: FAVORITE ALL TIME PLAYER: Ellery Hanley - no contest. I hated him for
leaving Bradford at the time but I soon got over it. I can see the same
thing happening soon to Leon Pryce at Bradford who's currently showing
the same obscene amounts of talent at about the same age as Hanley was
when he started to hit the headlines.

: FAVORITE FEMALE SPORTS PERSON: I've not really thought about it. I can
watch and enjoy any sport if it's competitive but I only really follow
RL.

: favorite MOVIE: A toss up between Get Carter, Zulu, The Italian Job or
Quadrophenia. The latter one influenced my decision on where to go to
University (Brighton) so I'll opt for that one. When I was there I even
found the ginnel where Leslie Ash gets her kit off. I thought I'd be the
first but someone has drawn a picture of her naked on the wall and
thousands of others have scribbled graffitti on the walls.

: FAVORITE ACTOR: From the above you'd think Micheal Caine but it's just
coincidence. Again I've never really thought about it but, on the
strength of Cross of Iron, I'll go for James Coburn.

: FAVORITE ACTRESS: Again, never thought about it. I can't think of an
actress without also thinking of a reason not to like her. For the sake
of argument, Beryl Reid.

: FAVORITE BAND/SINGER: Mr Bungle. No one's heard of them over here but I
understand they're pretty famous in Australia so maybe you guys have.

: FAVORITE TV PROGRAM (BAR LEAGUE):
Battlefields - a Discovery channel thing.

: LIKES - 5 THINGS -
Beer, sex, chips, gravy and world war ii books.

: DISLIKES - 5 THINGS -

Beer that's too cold, bad sex, soggy chips and badly written WWII books
that a 13 year old history student could pick holes in.

...and spiders. I fecking *hate* spiders.

: WORST HOUSEHOLD CHORE -

Getting spiders out of my housemate's bedroom. He's worse than I am for
arachnophobia but if they stay still I don't panic and I can throw things
at them from across the room.

: FAVORITE FOOD -

Chunks of chicken tikka drenched in chilli sauce, mayonaisse and raw
onions and all wrapped up in a garlic naan bread. Ideally it should come
with strawberry flavoured milk and is best eaten when you've come
back from a club, you're extremely drunk and you've failed to cop off with
anyone.

: FAVORITE PASTIME -

Very specifically my favourite time of any week is spending Sunday
morning in the kitchen having just done all the prep work for Sunday
dinner. I buy as many newspapers as I can on Sundays and sit at the table
with industrial strength coffee and cigarettes (the only time I do either
BTW) and read.

More generally it's also reading but, like most blokes, I tend to think
the toilet is the best place. Our largest set of bookshelves are in the
bathroom, a source of amusement for most people who come to our house.

: IF YOU COULD MEET ANYONE WHO WOULD IT BE?

I was asked this earlier this week and I couldn't answer it then either.
I've narrowed it down to two people, both Russians (well, Soviets) and
both from the World War Two era.

The first is a bloke called Zhukov who was one of the highest ranking
officers to survive Stalin's pre-war purges. He saved Leningrad and
Stalingrad, masterminded the push west and won the battles of Kursk and
Berlin.

The second is a guy called Beria who was in charge of the forerunner of
the KGB, the NKVD, under Stalin. After Stalin's death he was in the
running as Stalin's replacement after the former's death in '53. Kruschev
had him executed shortly after taking office. He's one of the few people
who you can actually say was a disgusting, odious creature without fear
of overstatement. I'd love to know what made him tick though.

Annoyingly I've just thought of a third but I'll spare you the details.
For a change though, this one's Cambodian.

: WHAT PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU?

Errrm, dunno. I tend to overshare so people who've met me probably know
more about me than I do myself. I like RL, history, programming,
electronics, beer, sex, swimming and food. That's it. That's my life.

: MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT?

When I was sixteen I had an abcess on my anal wall. I was in hospital
to have it removed and, whilst waiting for an aneasthetist, a Doctor
brought in a gaggle of student nurses to have a look. For a sixteen year
old lad having a group of eighteen to twenty year old lasses look up the
inside of your ringpiece is quite embarrassing. Having the dressing
changed after the operation by the same sort of student nurse isn't
exactly a bag of laughter either.

: GREATEST SPORTING ACHIEVEMENT?

I represented my school at RL and swimming. I played RL for Dudley
Hill for about a year, a side playing in what was then the equivelant of the
Metro Cup, and then went on to play American Football for the Brighton
B-52s when I was at University. That lasted exactly one training session
- the kit is really uncomfortable and I was only going for something to
do. Having got bored with running into blokes twice as big as me (and
then I was nearly 17 stone / 240lbs!) I went back to swimming in the sea.

: PERSON YOU WOULD MOST LIKE TO BE STRANDED WITH ON A DESSERT ISLAND?

A Dessert island? If this is strawberry flavoured Angel Delight dessert
then I can think of a few people I could entertain myself with there. I
dunno really. I love talking to people but ultimately I'm a bit of a
loner so it's hard to think of anyone who I could spend more than a week
alone with without one of use getting seriously injured. My sister's my
best mate though so I guess she'd be the longest to survive. Does this
island have big sticks on it?

: FINAL COMMENTS -

I stayed behind tonight to sort out backups for our staff filestore. I
haven't done a sodding thing yet thanks to you. :^)

Waaaay off topic question:

As you may know in Aus, we're having a total eclipse of the sun in this
country tomorrow. Totallity is in Cornwall / Devon with the rest of the
country getting a partial eclipse. My housemate, Dave, is a bit of
an astronomer at heart and he set off on Monday with a girl on each arm
(literally) to see it. I got a phone call from him this morning telling
me that Cornwall was under a foot of water and so they'd gone to the Isle
of Skye off the west coast of Scotland instead. Now, is it just me or is
this the behaviour of a fuckwit? You wait your entire life for an eclipse
and then, when it comes, you sod off to the other end of the country. To
top it all Skye is full of midgies and flies at this time of year and
he's going to get eaten alive. Stupid sod!

Well, funny his name should come up in this thread. Apparently he was
distantly related to my grandfather, a second rower who played for NSW
and Wests.

Frank Spillane never made the Australian team and, in conversation
with one of the selectors some years later he mentioned the Giltinan
connection and the selector said

"If we'd have known that, you probably would've been selected for that
kangaroo tour." (can't remember which year, but the year he played for
NSW anyway.)

I guess I've been aware of backdrop of corruption in the game for many
years!

take what's said in here to heart.

WORST HOUSEHOLD CHORE - Vacuuming.

FAVORITE FOOD - Chicken, Pizza and of course Pineapples :)

FAVORITE PASTIME - Rugby League.

IF YOU COULD MEET ANYONE WHO WOULD IT BE? There is no one in the
world I particularly want to meet but I tell you all, this is a
different side to the arrogance you see of me here, since my
grandfather passed away on September 27, 1993, I think about him
everyday, I miss him like no else, he was my idol and best ever
mate, I wish I could have known him longer and talk to him again. I
know I never well, but his inspiration he gave lives in my mind
forever and everything I achieve in life, I thank him.

WHAT PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU? I'm actually a really kind hearted
person when you really get to know me.

MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT? I injured my knee badly in 1992, I started
some light running but my knee was playing up, the team was having a
school training run and our coach (sports teacher) yelled out to me
to have a run into four forwards, I said to 'Stewie' my knee is
gone, I can't, he then called me a wuss and told me he didn't care
what me knee was like, of course my knee crumbled in the tackle and
was out for all of 1993. I should have stood stronger and told him
to get fucked but in 1992 I was weak in the mind and you just did
what the teacher said or face the sack and trouble, whereas in 1994
or after I would told him to get stuffed, like I did in 1994 when he
tried to bully me, he wanted to give me a letter to the parents, I
said fine, but won't be here on Monday as I got a job and out of
this hole. When he started being an arsehole to me in 1994, giving
me the motivation to get out of school, me and the old man
threatened to sue the arse of him for the incident when I finally
told him about it but my mum who was good friends with him
intervened. I've never forgiven him for the football incident, it
was poor responsibility of a coach and a PE teacher who should know
better about respecting injuries but forgiven over his bully teacher
act in 1994. One other poster in here nearly got his entire HSC
fucked because of Stewie.

GREATEST SPORTING ACHIEVEMENT? I have to say my 2 from 3 sideline
goals from the south right hand side of the ground at Belmore SG
well after the game when Canterbury smashed Cowboys 66-4 in 1995.
What makes my effort remarkable is that Halligan missed all four
shots from that side of the ground, two of them pretty easy too in
the first half, yes, in one half we scored 5 tries and 0 goals. One
official having a drink in the Mortimer bar saw my kick and I said
to him with SL trying its arse off to be American, well, when SL
bring in the kicker rule, hey you can bring me on board and get rid
of Daryl :)

On the playing side of things, I must say the time I won us a game
with a strip in 1991 when that rule was stupidly illegal, down
15-14, I went for broke, punched the ball out, got to 10m out and
next tackle, our centre was in to score.

PERSON YOU WOULD MOST LIKE TO BE STRANDED WITH ON A DESSERT ISLAND?

I have to say a working helicopter so I can get away from there
quicksmart.

FINAL COMMENTS - This newsgroup is a great place to discuss Rugby
League and have a good laugh. Remember why most sign this group, is
because we all love or like Rugby League. It's just a discussion
board and when not in here, don't take things to heart and everyday
is a new day in life. I go off the loose end, I'm an emotional
person and Rugby League is my passion, as you may all realise if you
read http://rleague.com but surprisingly I do like everyone in here
and you are all welcome to say hello to me anytime.

Regards,
Matthew.

I've narrowed it down to two people, both Russians (well, Soviets) and both
from the World War Two era.

KGB, the NKVD, under Stalin. After Stalin's death he was in >the running as

I've always thought it interesting that Beria was executed as an English
spy. Apparently the full truth was hidden from the population until the full
revelations about the Stalin era were exposed. I have the book "Kruschkev
Remembers" and are currently reading Anton Antonov-Ovseyenko's "Portrait of
a Tyranny".

Favourite?
If the question was : What is the crappiest movie ever made from
a potentially OK idea but butchered by a moronic script, wooden
acting and too much hype, then that would be it.

I knew it. She's the most popular female sports person. At least that's
what the results say from this thread. Although I doubt if anyone
admires her for her sports skills and achievements

Good thing you didn't say Christina Applegate. Her current one is
shocking, to say the least.

I can tell from those two answers.

Matt, I know you're not the kinda guy who'd watch Dawson's Creek, but
that was very similar to this storyline a few weeks ago.
