Just wondering, as the new motorsport season starts to ramp up if anyone still
subscribes to this newsgroup.

What are the web based alternatives?

Or will this be yet another NG that I'll unsubscribe from?

Certainly, there's a lot to talk about, particularly the V8s as that series
heads into a new era with new rules, silhouette formula and the potential for
new manufacturers to enter the competition.

I'm finding myself firing up Agent about once a week, these days. I subscribe to
about 8 NGs (aus.* ones). Busiest is aus.cars but it has a huge signal/noise
ratio. God knows what they're like when you're not running filtering processes
on them. (I use Newsproxy/nFilter).

I still can't believe that they're going with a full on Nascar formula. All's
missing are the Ricky Bobbys, round tracks and rolling starts. We have
everything else including pace cars that come out at the drop of a hat...

interestingly a friends daughter, who turned into a bogan despite our best
efforts is a big "Holden" fan, (even though we rage on her about how the
Holden she loves to see race is about as close to her production car as a
dog sled is to a skidoo) went to the 12 hour at Bathurst on the weekend and
LOVED it, despite her beloved Holden R8's getting their arses handed to them
by the Audi R8's
There is hope yet.

Probably reflecting the state pf motorsport in this country these days.
Remove the money slurping V8 stuporcars and the support classes that they
have so skillfully removed from widespread coverage and all you're left with
is club level. Speedweek tries to give us some variety but it's only one
show in a network that is constantly battling bankruptcy.

Mindless tripe to keep the knuckledraggers happy. Unfortunately it isn't
just this country that suffers from the banality of modern motorsport.
Operators are so paranoid about getting sued that they have removed the
comptativeness from the sport for fear of someone getting hurt.

Paul Hogan had it right.

I know very little about it. But from what I've read it sounds much like
Nascar's "cars of tomorrow" or whatever it's called, in concept.

I s'pose that I'm a dinasour in some ways. Back in 84 I lamented the end of
Group C. Group A saw the local car (Brock's VK) win just one race, if I recall,
at Sandown, beating Richo's BMW mainly because the Beemer didn't have the right
tyres.

I'd like to see the new cars with wide rubber but les aero. Sure, have wings and
skirts and stuff to make them LOOK fast, but have them rely more on tyre grip.
