I remember some posting how Hodge never makes runs after Xmas. He seems to
have piled them on this year both before and after. At 30, he still has 5-8
years at the top level, so if his form continues, he would surely be a
better option than the poorly PC performed Clarke.

Yes, there were some people who said that he'd never made runs after
Xmas. You'll notice that they've stopped saying it for a bit now?

Well, yes. But he's not from NSW.

You seem to have dropped the V in favour of a W.

Possibly me. And it was also possibly an idle observation something
more along the lines that he never seems (seemed?) to have a
consistent season. 'Twas either good < Xmas, or good > Xmas. And his
flat spot usually seemed to co-incide with when there was the sniff of
a Test spot in the air. Could have been wrong. Was just an impression.

His career FC average of 44.XX is prob supportive of your assessment of him
being inconsistent, but he seems to have turned a corner over the last
couple of seasons. Age and state will not help his cause for a baggy green.

But you have to remember that when G. Chappell, Marsh and Lillee retired,
Australian cricket went into serious decline, the stock market crashed and
the Earth slipped out of the Sun's gravitational field. It's not worth the
risk. We must stack the test team with under-performing teenagers NOW!

Not if you read.

I've been quite agreeable for some time now to the suggestion that the
bias now overwhelmingly favours NSW and that Victoria are very much
the junior member. They still have it a lot easier than the Others
though and I do agree with Alvey that the dics will be on top again
soon enough.

Yeah that would explain the number of Victorians compared to say
Queenslanders in the current team.

Yes Colin, but if not for the NSV, there would be half the number of
Victorians in the current test team. Clearly Hodge, Innes, White, et al have
had it far too easy.

when exactly should Hodge or White have played tests?
Inness should have been picked ahead of Bracken but I'd find it hard
to argue that he should displace Bichel or Hayden who are the two
Queenslanders in or around the test team.

Oh, and by origin rules Williams qualifies as Victorian...

I didn't say they should play, I was simply pointing out the idiocy of the
belief that the Victorians have it a lot easier than the others. Which
Victorians?

I don't think you'll find too many cases.

I've argued the point about individual players such as Lee, Mark
Waugh, Blewett etc being carried too long and other players being
harshly dealt with including Bichel, Hayden, Kasprowicz and Whitney.
