Hawthorn apparently have a player called "Buddy" Franklin, but his
nickname seems to have changed.

I'm almost certain I heard a lot of Hawthorn supporters today referring to
someone called "Bloody" Franklin - especially after he was kicking for
goal.

The changing fortunes of football eh David?
The Blues in shit street, The Tigers on the rise, who would have thought
it a month ago?

All clubs this season have struggled to maintain any good form past a 4-5
week period, things can turn around quite quickly.

Richmond finally played a match without a period where they fell asleep
and allowed their opposition to essentially win the game, so they did well
yesterday but that sort of consistency takes years to deliver on a regular
basis so I'm not counting on it too much more in 2012 as our run of good
form is due to peter out quite soon.

Add in that the more you improve the more oppositions take you seriously
and the more work is done to counter your game plan - something most clubs
haven't really needed to throw too many resources at for Richmond games
recently.

The Tigers are now two wins better than "par" but are reliant on most of
this improvement to one player - Ivan Maric. If anything happens to him we
are stuffed.

I bet they wish Richmond had taken Bloody Buddy instead of Richard Tambling,
eh?

I can tell you now that Tambling's nickname wasn't as innocuous as
"bloody" once the majority of supporters finally realised he was never
going to deliver.

Some of us were screaming for him to be traded - while he still had
some perceived value - just a couple of years after he was recruited
because we saw through the perennial hype that was never delivered, but in
true Richmond fashion getting a few kicks in the pre-season against his
own teammates was turned into "Brownlow form" too often and the suckers
lapped it up until even they couldn't keep the delusion alive.

I remember seeing Tambling in his first season in a pre-season hitout at
Victoria Park, he missed set shots from 35M out directly in front and I
was left wondering about all the hype about this supposedly super-skilled
kid from NT. His disposal skills never got recognised as a problem in
his whole time at Richmond and therefore never got any attention and never
improved - another player who's career was crippled by the rose-coloured
glasses at Punt Road that refused to recognise any deficiencies in any
player they recruited.

Only Brett Deledio has survived from that period of toxic delusion led by
Terry Wallace and Clinton Casey (and others, of course) that set the place
back the best part of a decade.
