So many assumptions by the FFA, like the owners/trustees of grounds like the 'G or Subi, even the Gabba would happily snub their cash cows the AFL and let FIFA run the show.
The demand by FIFA to have a 2km exclusion zone around the venues for 8 weeks as well as control all advertising, before, during and after a game plus no allowing any other sport use the facilities reeks of elitism.
The MCG trustees aren't happy with such a imposition. The WA Government and Subiaco City Council are happy to negotiate but have said 8 weeks is inappropriate, even given the new plans to have Subi rebuilt as a 60k+ seat venue in time for the WC. Certainly the business around Subi: restaraunts, cafes, night clubs, pubs etc aren't happy that they wouldn't be allowed to advertise or sell any brand of alcohol that isn't an approved sponsor of FIFA.
For the first time ever I agree (shock, horrow) with Andy D, that the restictions FIFA & the FFA want to impose would mean either cancelling the season or altering it in such a way that the season would run at a loss.
So far I haven't seen any reaction from thugby, and if the FFA/FIFA want Stadium Australia as the finals venue, the AFL - being a substantial part owner - can hedge its bets.
We were able to stage a successful Rubgy WC in terms of venues, revenue etc, with very little issues to do with exclusivity. Why does FIFA have such exhorbitant demands that need to be entertained?
I personally don't care if "we" win the next bid or the one after: if FIFA wants a code that suddenly requires virgin grass and powers over and above those of the local and state governments, then perhaps they should going into the Arms Dealing business and wage war on any nation that wants to host its WC.
As the Head Librarian Frances O'Brien would say, "Our country, our rules."

Funny how the Poms invented the only games that you can draw easier than
win. And be bored to death watching them.
