I am looking for a simple scanner with a mains plugpack. It doesnot ned to
be the latest. Secondhand will do. What have you?
Have a Uniden Bearcat UBC73XLT. Handheld with 2AA, DC transformer in
(which charges the batteries in situ as well), and cig lighter power
adapter. Cheap. Does a good job. Get cops, CFA, air, UHF, AM, etc.
Had it for about 5 years.
Keypad a little tough to figure out, but once you have, it's pretty
feature-rich.
Here's one:

You can get them cheaper than that though with a bit of shopping around.
Dick Smith usually has a few on the shelf.

But according to the owner's manual (p14), it does not have an AC plupack
for the mains.

Wow! :)
<sarcasm on> Imagine that a hand held scanner with an antenna. What next? A
scanner that scans??? <sarcasm off>

Perhaps Officeworks is doing the same thing as DSE - only in
reverse... their staff surely wouldn't be any less knowledgeable when
it came to electronics.
Officeworks are nothing but shit. They know shit, they sell shit, and their
beat anyone's price by 5% is shit.
I wouldnt give 'em the steam off my shit .
There, I feel better now.. :)

Thier staff are just as dumb as the staff at DSE. I was in my local OW a
while back looking for a briefcase for myself. When asked if they had any
the staff member showed me a shelf full of laptop cases.

LOL. It's still sitting in the shed Lindsay, although I did put the
original tyres back on the quad bike.

I don't doubt that :)

The staff are all probably too young to even have seen a briefcase :)
Seems like it's a common trait these days. Fill the stores with dopey
brainless staff and the punters won't know the difference.

Still in nappies judging by the way they dressed themselves. One female
staffer was trying to do a Lady Gaga impersonation with her hair style
(sigh - the things you see when you haven't got a gun).
The "staff" at Officeworks take the cake as biggest morons and
dunderheads of all time. Totally utterly useless. My local Officeworks
has staff that just look at you and don't want to serve you. Of
course, it doesn't help that the managers are all bean counting
fuckwits with no social skills whatsoever.
Customer service does not exist and retailers wonder why their sales
volumes are down ???

You've just nailed it. Sales droids in stores are just that: droids.
They dont give a shit, coz they dont have to. just so long as they get
paid....
