Hello all

Just planning a trip down the M3 from Newcastle to Manly. Can anybody
suggest 2m and 70cm repeters and give me the frequencies please. I imagine
this will include Gosford Hornsby and Manly. Also, is WICEN ever used for
real emergencies thesedays? If so, I guess I need that frequency too

Cheers

Thanks Brad

A very comprehensive reference that I suppose I should have known about. But
I'd really appreciate if someone could answer the second part of the
question: is WICEN actually active in any emergencies or just
events/training?

I carry a copy of the repeater list in pdf format in my phone as a
ready reckoner when traveling. The VK3 repeaters use different tones
to VK2 so my radio needs reprogramming. It would help if they listed
the PL tone with the repeater pair and if they'd drop the TX frequency
column. It's redundant

I can't accurately answer the second part of the question as I have
not frequented 2m or 70cm for a few years now. While WICEN itself has
to be activated by official sources, their fixed repeater on 147.150
was a permanent system that we used a lot.I am unable to key it this
morning and I do not know its current status.

The other WICEN frequencies were reserved for portable repeaters that
most likely are not operational at present. There's usually an
announcement made when WICEN itself is activated. I do not know of any
local activations at the moment.(I'm also no expert on the subject).

"WICEN is the emergency service arm of Amateur Radio, providing
communications support during times of civil emergency (eg fire, flood
and storms) to primary emergency services such as the Police and SES,
as well as providing safety communications to public events (eg car
rallies, bike rides etc.)."
This should mean that they are there during MAJOR bushfires etc

Yes, I am aware of the event comms, but in fact I have never read in the
media any account of a disaster where they actually took part.

that they actually took part i

February 7 2009 bushfires was the last in victoria. They were also
involved in each of the large fires we have had in several states over
the last several years.

In Victoria, not sure of the other states, the emerging role is
supplying experienced operators to the authorities like the DSE.

They operate up to 12 hour shifts to supplement the numbers of the
organisations.

Graeme...
