Australia is sending an army of 95 federal government representatives
to the Copenhagen climate conference - that's more than 3,000 hours of
flying, which emits greenhouse gases.
The delegation runs all the way from Prime Minister Kevin Rudd down to
spin doctors, police, a driver, and someone to handle baggage and
passport issues.
Some states are sending their own delegates to add to the Australian
contingent. South Australia leads the charge with four
representatives, including premier Mike Rann.
Queensland is sending three representatives while NSW, Victoria and
Western Australia are sending two apiece.
The greenhouse gas emissions of delegates flying to Copenhagen has
worried the Danish organisers - and Australians are amongst the worst
offenders because it's such a long flight.
The return journey is at least 40 hours in the air.
Denmark has vowed to neutralise all emissions from delegates' flights
by funding new brick factories in Bangladesh to replace old,
heavy-polluting ones.
A total of 30,100 delegates will attend the 11-day conference at
Copenhagen's Bella Center, which has a capacity of 15,000.
There are 3,000 journalists, 22,000 observers (including lobby groups
and activists), and 8,000 delegates representing countries.
The biggest crowds are not expected until next week when world leaders
arrive, but already long queues are forming to get in at certain
times, as well as for food, technical support and toilets.
Some organisations have been told that not all their delegates will be
allowed in next week due to space constraints.
The conference began on Monday and finishes on December 18.
It's being held to try to seal a new deal on global warming.

The number of camels swells and by the morning there are hundreds.
Resident Lyle Kenny says they come in looking for water.
"[The] last couple of weeks it was 600 camels out here," he said.
"They just walk past on the bitumen... I camp outside sometimes. I
look at them. It is like a movie, you know. Camels just marching along
- about 50 or 30."

disease inquiry in the 1980s says next week's Government-funded camel

The Department of Agriculture expects to have killed 2,000 wild camels
by the end of week in a bid to bring their numbers under control.
Professional shooters have been targeting camels and donkeys from
helicopters in the East Pilbara region since Monday.
It is the second of two culls.
The first killed more than 2,000 animals last month.
The department's Damian Collopy says it is estimated there are almost
500,000 camels in Western Australia and their numbers are doubling
every eight years.
"They do head west at certain times of the year and in certain seasons
