THE Rudd Government says only OPEC can help reduce petrol prices by
increasing the supply of oil to countries, including Australia.

The Government passed the FuelWatch legislation in the House of
Representatives last week, despite strong criticism from the opposition.

The coalition criticised the legislation, saying retailers should not be
forced to fix their prices ahead of time and consumers could end up paying
more for petrol.

"The bottom line is this: we've got a huge problem worldwide when it comes
to oil prices and petrol prices," Mr Rudd told Channel 10.

"When I go to Japan I'm speaking with Prime Minister Fukuda.

"Next month he will be hosting the G8 summit.

"One of the matters I'll be raising with him and writing to the other G8
heads of government on, is the global challenge we have of global oil supply
right now.

"Because what is happening right now in Australia, is happening worldwide."

He said it was up to OPEC (the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting
Countries) to open supplies for the international community.

"It goes to global oil supply in large part.

"OPEC need to open the production lines to a greater extent, increase global
oil supply.

"They've done it a bit in response to representations from President Bush.

"The G8 provides an opportunity to apply the blow-torch to the OPEC
organisation and its time that happened."

Whether OPEC can meaningfully increase production is another thing, but it's
at least a better option than Fool Watch.

FFS ... can you believe the guy who rushed off to sign Australia up
for Kyoto now having the balls to spout such hypocrisy about high oil
prices?

Too funny ... Kevin woudl have us believe he wants cheaper carbon
emissions?

Or more likely, given he signed Kyoto, Rudd really doesn't want lower
petrol prices. Certainly explains why he brought in Fuel Watch.

Fool watch only serves one purpose. To show us what fools labour are.
