Trouble is, the Yanks have never conceded they were actually defeated in Vietnam.
If only they had stayed longer, they would have won...etc. Maybe.
But no nation likes foreigners on its territory, which partly explains sudden outbursts of Green-on-Blue attacks.
Even now, the imminent withdrawal of NATO from Afghanistan is not on the basis of claiming full victory, but only that the country is sufficiently Westernised to survive a resurgent Taliban. Time will tell.
As for Australia, the Yanks found our continent a convenient base for the push north against the Japs. Now we are possibly an expendable forward outpost, for containment of China. If war comes to our region, the USA mainland is a long way away, but we will be right in the centre of things. So, good luck!
