Anyone had good/bad experiences with either?
I am interested in printing on fine art papers, in particular canvas. How
does either one perform?

Why don't you look at the HP designjet 100? This is the small brother to
my 130 which prints brilliantly on everyday Artist's canvas, bought by
the roll and coated with a sealer.
There's one of mine on Ebay id you want to see the texture and like:

Nice photo - how much did you pay the model to get out of bed? :)

Hmmm which is the reason why I think Epson also supply a "varnish" cartridge
if memory serves me correctly...

That link does not have any information about the designjet 100 or 130
HP printer. If your news service lists rec.photo.digital.slr-systems
have a look at what Alan Browne in Canada had to say about some 900mm x
610mm prints from my DJ130 I sent him a few weeks ago.

I sent 12 prints to photographers around the world from my S800 canon years
agho when they first came out and ALL of the recipients mistook them for
RA4's - ALL of them had bought a Canon S800 within two weeks - one of them
was Robert Earnest who has substantial exposure in North America, another
has the McDonalds contract from the Chicago area, another an IT guy and
photog in Canada - another, the head of Graphic Design, Multimedia and
Photography at CMC Tafe. In this same college I was the senior tech for
graphic design (who had over 120 grands worth of printers), multimedia and
photography - where we had a pair of Epson 7600's that the students would
bypass to get to the Canon S820.
we had RA4's, Epson pigment and canon dye prints on the walls - the RA4 sat
there for eight years looking grand, the canon was still there two years
after it was hung but the Epsons were pulled down after a year in
embarrassment by the lecturers after it faded to orange.
We had a HP wide format in the Design Centre. The design students used to
sneak in and use the Canons too

I'm the guy who sold 450 baby show photos the year before last and
printed on Canon S9000. To keep credibility with all those people who
bought them (the photos) I exchanged every last one of them for true
photographs when the clients started to complain about the photos
changing colour after as little as a month. Canon's answer?
"Well the S9000 is not a professional printer you know and there is
information on our web site about how to preserve your photos. It's not
as if we've withheld information".
Not a single complaint from anyone since I changed to both HP and Epson
printers. Maybe all the "design students" were sneaking about anyway.
Personally I thing the lecturers must have got confused and actually
pulled the Canon pics. You didn't change the labels by any chance, did
you? Canon printers might make colourful pictures but they sure as hell
haven't learnt the difference between outright lies and enthusiastic
advertising.

EOS my GOD,
Thank you for this daily ISO boost.
Thank you for the colours of my pictures.
Damn you to hell for the 20D
that locks up without warning!
I take it you mean dye and not their pigment inks..
I myself have

there have been many differing points of view and many differing

eek!@
I'd hate to have to exchange all the fine prints I sold over the last few
years, especially at the prices I sold them for, but then again - I get
repeat buyers and haven't had a complaint yet so mebbe I'm just lucky ;-)

the student who did the prints ID'd them, nowt to do with any controlled
tests or anything.

like Epson prior to the terrible orange shift discovery..
out of interest, what paper did you use for those 450 baby shts - not Canon
I hope, their paper *may* llok nice but it's awful for longevity
