Mirror with a memory: the Photographic Portrait in Australia
Mirror with a memory is the first-ever survey of the history of the
portrait photograph in Australia. Since the early 1840's, when the
newly-invented process of photography reached Australia, the portrait
photograph has been a significant part of the lives of Australians.
Mirror with a memory shows the richness of Australia's photographic
traditions. It includes a myriad of forms which make up those
traditions, from the 19th century of albums of families and celebrities,
lockets and srapbooks, to 20th century photo-booth snapshots and digital
images. Mirror with a memory is a rich and engaging experience which
holds a mirror up to ourselves as a nation.
There is also an exhibition covering the British Wildlife Awards on at
the National Science and Technology Building (Questecon). The photo
content is great although the presentation from Questecon leaves a bit
to be desired!
