Interesting the price. I think that was pretty much what the price was
back then, but obviously worth a lot more. I think the thing that
poked me to the Duke was that it was the time of the Cagiva/Ducati
merger and they decided to slash 20% off the price of the entire
Ducati range. Which meant the 851 went from $26000 down to something
more sensible. Wish they hadn't done that. Lovely looking design.
Sounded sweet as. Cunt of a thing to ride. Put me off Ducatis for
life.

Is that when, having decided that you'd like it, but you can't afford it

If it is in good nick with low ks that could be a brilliant investment. The
problem is you then can only park it in the lounge room and polish it instead
of riding it.

Getting it up the stairs.

Ride it up the stairs you lazy boy you.
I admit I have trouble with double-apexing the landing.

On the back wheel! Much tighter turning circle. Too easy.
If you haven't seen Dougie Lampkin do it, you should (and if you have
it's probably time to watch it again anyhow).

Bugger, he didn't jump from the roof !!
See Zebs? Nice bloke that you are, it's easy. You just need more
balls.
(RC45 might be more of a chance. Assuming you can *find* one!)

Yea? around where?
It's true there's often one for sale somewhere in the world, the wonder of
the internet, often in the UK or France but they're rarely ,if ever, under
$20k Aus.
They you've got to factor in freight from over there, GST and any other
charges associated with importation, if any.
A good example landed and ready for rego will cost a lot more than $20K. At
least I hope so...
Capt A. L.
Well yes, if only because you have to buy it overseas and then spend a
year overseas with it.
As they are a post-85 bike that's the only way. You might be able to
pay to get someone to jump through the hoops to be able to certify it,
but I think the year overseas is a better bet.
Zebee
I've been led to believe that any pre 89 model is registerable with an
import approval and a roadworthy.
I'll tell you if that's the real deal in a week or so.
Capt A. L.
Used to be if it was over 15 years old, then they changed that to
pre-something, I thought it was pre-85.

Does it matter? If you had the means and the bank balance to import an
RC45 as an investment, the last thing you'd be wanting to do is devalue
the bloody thing by riding it on the road.

Hmm, I dunno. I would want to ride it. Yes, as you say, if you bought
them as an investment, then so be it.
But I've bought rare bikes before and bloody well ridden them.
Probably the reason they are rare :-)
I'm with you there Kevin. If I want an investment I'll buy stocks or real
estate.
I buy bikes to ride. The value I get is from the experience not the resale
