As a general purpose bike that isn't fazed by gravel the people I've
known who have had one liked them a lot.
On the other hand, it is to some extent an orphan, you will have to
hunt bits and hunt people to work on it. If you mostly do your own
work and are comfortable with phone/mail/net order and finding
communities on the net to help you then it should be fine. Otherwise
get the more common bike.

if you said 50/50 road/dirt I would go with it.. it has a 21" front
end and is far more dirt oriented.
but parts will be hard to come by..its an Aprila after all, and exxy
unless you are getting for a steal, i would go the Strom as its a lot
smoother on the road.
They are a good bike, but not as good as a Strom for what "you" want
to do

They're quite 'exotic' and I don't mean that in the same way as if I
were describing say a Shelby Mustang GT500 or a Ferrari F430. In fact
in order for buying it to be a good financial decision it would have to
be so cheap that you wouldn't buy it purely on grounds of suspicion.

The pre-2000/ 2001 model? (USD forks, sweeet), carbs
or the later (standard forks model?), EFI
We had 5 (over some years) of the USD model.
To cut a loooong story short:
You like riding ....or...wrenching?
Low maintenance = Strom
Continuous fettling and all other issues mentioned in the thread (but also a
HEAP of fun) = Pegaso
The Peg had a 19" front , 17" rear. Best tyres Metzelers Enduro 3 or 4.
Not really a 2-up bike.
Parts have always been somewhat of a headache, lots of differences between
the years/ same model didn't make it easier.
Peg weak spots: Waterpump impeller, sprag clutch, head-gasket, the
needle-bearings in the rear suspension linkage and swingarm, head and wheel
bearings.
The 5th (centre) valve is a prick to get to.....carbs need to be removed to
be adjusted/ cleaned/drained!!(about 4hr. job as they're sitting wedged
tight between cyl head and frame-rails, which taper towards the back= no
access).
There were at least 4 revisions of the head-gasket up to 2002 or
2003...about the time I got out of the Pegs.
No diff at all in fuel comsumption + power between the carb and later EFI
models.
V-Strom. : ) Especially with a pillion.

Well, I guess that's it then. Mind you, if it's a sensible price
(whenever) I might mention it here anyway in case someone madder &/or
handier than me is still interested. I've sort of been spoilt by several
of my bikes, especially my old '83 GS1100G. Apart from fork rebuilds & cam
seals every so often, it ran on oil & tyre changes, plus checking that
nothing had broken when I occasionally fell off it. I offloaded it as a
non runner a year or so ago with an expensive 'failure to start' and a
couple of other things that finally needed money thrown at them. It was
back on the road a week later and the new owner is clocking up the same
sort of trips that I used to. Still sounds great but I wish he'd wash the
poor old thing occasionally. It's starting to resemble a bloody Royal
Enfield!
