I've just bought myself an '04 955i Daytona as a donor bike. It's got
front and right side damage and isn't rideable.

I need to get it from Sydney to Townsville. It's strapped to a palette.

Bikes Only quoted $800. I'd like to do it somewhat cheaper.

Suggestions please. (Please limit suggestions to motorcycles and the
transport thereof.)

If you can get it crated and packed in appropriate padding you can
probably get it sent much cheaper - will the vendor pack it for you
for a reasonable price ?

Now, being a bloke who sends stuff around the country - I would not
assume 'It's strapped to a pallet.' means 'It is suitably packed for
transporting a fair distance'.

However, a pallet sent road express by someone with an account (say Toll
Express) from Melb - Bris will be about $300.

Check the 'cubic' allowance if it is standing up on the pallet - if it
is standing up it will pretty much guarantee it is top loaded (loaded on
top of other cargo rather than buried under stuff).

To be truly sure of not damaging it in transit a cage would have to be
built around it - but - you would probably get away with covering it in
wrap and 'Top Load Only' stickers.

The trick to getting a good rate is to have it booked by someone with an
account.

Being strapped to a pallet (which is flat and open) isn't quite the same
as being inside a crate (which is 3D and closed).

Maybe you should learn to read first, before abusing others for imagined
shortcomings?

When and if you ever buy a bike from overseas, the carriers will say do you
want it crated ot on a pallet?
The crated bit means fully enclosed in a box,
the palleted bike means on a steel pallet , covered in plastic, but without
the sides and top

Absolutely. That's why I picked it.

And GWF must stand for "Girls Wont Fuck"? Not surprising, really.

Indeed. Which is exactly what I said, and exactly what you attacked JL

OK, I've had enough of this!

I get creamed for being abusive by The Überabusive Slav From Hell,
who is some kind of hero here because he's a hoon who has somehow
managed to figure out how to get published by bike magazines (not a
particualry dfficult feat, eh Clem?), when there is clearly a
siginificant percentage of posters here who don't mind dishing out
abuse whenever it suits THEM. They just don't think it's abuse when
THEY do it, they think their're being COOL.

Continually, systematically abusing the same person is called
cyber-bullying. There's a bunch in here who think this is cool. Like
all bullies, they justify their behaviour by blaming the victim for
the bullying.

I am even guilty of this myself. But at least you won't find me
whacking up a barrage of denial and obfuscation about it, and I do
like to balance my bullying out by bullying the bullies as well.

Can we stop picking on George? Can we stop ridiculing him?
Can we stop the campaign to discourage people talking to him?

Or perhaps we'd rather call a spade a spade and rename this newsgroup
Biker Bullies and Abusers Central. I can play it eiher way. I'm
dysfunctional enough to keep dishing it out till your arseholes bleed
and even derive satisfcation from it, but is this REALLY what you
stupid cunts want?

And let's not kid ourselves that "subtle" ways of ridculing or abusing
are "better" and more "civilised" than the blatant stuff.

Google "Passive aggressive behavior" and get a clue.

Now fuck off and abuse your friends for Xmas!

OK, maybe the term "passive aggressive" is a bit oblique to this
discussion, but if you google "types of verbal abuse" you might just
begin to wake up to yourself.

Then again, we can make it all just too hard, and dismiss, ridicule
and invalidate those who write/talk about this stuff.

Gerry you missed Clem's point.

Andrew grumbled about BS replying to George (obviously because that
pulls GWF out of Andrew's kill file ) and included a comment that
sparring with George makes you look stupid

BS replied that Andrew's response was hardly edifying

Clem pointed out that there was a logic flaw in that riposte as Andrew
was replying to BS not to GWF

Watched an episode of "Open All Hours" recently where Ronnie Barker as

deliberately misspelled the word "Specials" as "Speciols" so he fleece
the clever dicks that come in to the shop to point out his spelling

So if everybody does what you do, admit that they bully people
continually, that's OK?

> Can we stop picking on George?  Can we stop ridiculing him?

I find it difficult to engage George without him being abusive at the
first exchange of opinion conflict. After that it is just too easy to
abuse back. And he's such a soft target. Like shooting sheep.

Anyway, you yourself spent a great amount of time and effort abusing
and harrassing George. Now that you think he may have actually been in
Vietnam, he's suddenly a buddy you want to take under your protective
wing. You're a hypocrite Gerry and you can't police the group. You
certainly can't protect poor George from his own bad manners.

Then you really shouldn't do it Gerry. If you are guilty as you say,
then what right have you to say that you have had enough when another
person does it?

>Can we stop picking on George? Can we stop ridiculing him?

It will stop. At the moment for a few in here, GWF is the flavour of
the month. I think some of your much earlier posting also had a shot
or two at GWF. But that was OK?
Give it time, someone else will join the group and write something
that you and/or other people will disagree with and the abuse cycle
will start all over again.

It is your bandwidth Gerry, feel free to do with it as you please. One
question springs to mind though, how does one derive satisfaction from
posting to a group (or person) that you haven't met in real life? Do
you think that people in here REALLY care what you or anyone else
including me posts?

Everyone else seems to think its a bad idea for some reason, but my
first thought when I read this was "if it's already on a pallet then
it really makes the job of shifting it easier". Mobs who specialise
in bike transport will probably have a real problem with a bike that
can't be wheeled around and strapped down in the usual fashion... it
it's strapped to a pallet then it obviously can't be wheeled or parked
easily. I reckon you could probably get it freighted quite cheaply
using a commercial trucking company. You'd need to organise delivery
to/from the trucking depot at each end though, which could be a pain
(taxi truck maybe) and be patient.. for the cheapest rates you'll need
to wait till there's room on a half full truck

Open All Hous and Ronnie Barker himself were brilliant.
I must download the series when I get some bandwidth!
(Porridge too. Did you know the Godper was Kate Beckinsale's father?)

I remember something similar to your example above I saw somewhere;
A big sign saying "Chokos 20c each or 3 for a dollar" and the customer
pointing out that he can in fact buy 5 for his dollar.
The customer walks away smugly while the vendor whispers to his
assistant "I never sold more than one-at-a-time before".

So if everybody does what you do, abuse him because he's abusive,

I stopped harassing him about Vietnam because it seems to me that he
may be telling the truth and I have to respect his wish to not talk
about it.

I'm not trying to protect him.. I could give a rat's arse. You might
have noticed I ignore nearly all his posts. I just don't get why this
ritual abuse of George is so much "fun" for you guys. If you don't
dig his shit, ignore his posts. Works for me...

I have said exactly that. BTW, a hypocrite is someone whose ideals
are higher than what he can live up to. What's wrong with that?

D'oh... It was an appeal to reason, not an attempt to control.

Wouldn't dream of it.

Clue: The fuckwit seems to thrive on abuse. I venture to say that if
all those who have been amusing him with their abuse simply failed to
respond to his drivel, he'd have no one to play with and he might go
away. But I suspect youze really want him around as your whipping
boy. A symbiosis between abuser and the abused. It's not an
uncommon basis for relationship.

Look Gerry, I don't give a fuck whether he went to Vietnam, made
himself a war hero, got the gov't to give him a bunch of medals, gets
together with people he hated at the time to talk about the children
and women they fucked or killed or both. I know people who went and,
for the most part, they're sad gits who think the country owes them a
living for being silly enough to get drafted. I decided not to go,
fortunately for me they changed the rules to exclude me so I didn't
have to go through with my decision to be an atheist conscientious
objector. that would have been tough in 64-5. But who knows whether I
would have had the courage.

That's an interesting interpretation of the word I haven't come across
before, did you just make that up?

hypocrite
noun someone given to hypocrisy; someone who feigns virtue or piety; a
pretender.
hypocrisy
1. the act of pretending to have a character or beliefs,
principles, etc., that one does not possess.

A hypocrite is someone pretending to have ideals Gerry. Is that you?

> >... you can't police the group.
>

Gerry, I really don't give a shit about George, or even you. I'm happy
to swap opinions with almost anyone and will defend my opinions until
I'm convinced that they may not be wholly correct. Then I may somewhat
modify my views. It's the way normal people operate. Sure, because of
the distance between people on the internet, people are more likely to
voice their opinions very strongly, and I think that that is a good
thing the internet does. Allows you to say what you really feel and
find out how other people really feel and think without the usual
social protocols. It gets quite intense sometimes. You can be not nice
to people and still respect their views, and most people here
understandd that. But when an abuser, someone with no point whatever
to make, sticks his nose into a conversation between others, why
should I ignore him? I don't ignore you, do I?

Unload it off the palette, wrap her in cloth and bubblewrap and let the
Furniture/Goods transporters do the job.
I've had two dirt bikes shipped this way, from Tassie and Ballarat to
Brisbane, no problems. Less than $300 ea.
If she's not an excellent example to start with then just pack with care and
take a punt.
Worked for me.

I've shipped a few bikes using Fergusson Racing. They're usually about
half the price of the others, and fantastic door-to-door service between
capital cities. Not sure if they'd do Townsville though.

There's obviously a reason why it's strapped to a pallet. At the
auctions a bike would be on a pallets because it either can't stand up
on it's own, or you can't push it around. A bike in either of those
categories is going to be a pain in the arse to move for most carriers
if it's not on a pallet... esp if it needs to be transferred between
trucks along the way.

Well, George, I tried. Not only did they distrust my motives, but
they called me a hypocrite as well. The abuse will go on, I'm afraid.
The usual suspects just love it too much. And you're a soft target.
They love soft targets, and they reckon you deserve it.

Me? I can find no reason, after the crap I copped, for making the
effort needed to resist the urge prompted by your ignorant and
arrogant comments. Of course you're probably too ignorant to realise
the arrogance of your comments, but hey, that's probably you.
