Can interstate parcel mail be inspected by authorities the same way as what
happens with international mail?

International mail may be checked for compliance with federal customs laws,
quarantine laws, etc. Those laws don't apply to interstate mail. Indeed,
rather than interstate mail, it is essentially just domestic Australian
mail. Other laws apply equally to both international and domestic mail.

But your query is short on context. What is your specific concern?

No specific concern. I recently purchased something from interstate. I
realised it would be an unsuspicious way to smuggle things across the
country. All you would need is someone on the inside in the supplier
company.

The word "smuggle" is odd. It historically applies where someone is trying
to avoid customs controls, which would not be relevant in the context.

If you are talking about shipping goods domestically that might have some
element of illegality involved (eg shipping drugs, weapons, etc), you don't
need anyone on the inside. You simply parcel up the goods, and take them to
AusPost or any other shipper, and have them sent to whereever you want.
Unless you were being watched by the police, the chances are that nothing
would happen. I have no idea what screening arrangements AusPost and other
domestic shippers use domestically, if any.

Yes if there is suspicion of the inappropriate or prohibited content

, that's part of your contract with Aus-post that you obey their rules
