** I think the rot really set in when I posted this gem:
" Sony to Sue Rage Audio"

News flash:
Sony Australia today announced that they have filed an action in the NSW
Supreme Court against a Mr Trevor Wilson, proprietor of a small Sydney
audio business, Rage Audio.
A Sony spokesperson, Mr Yamiguchi, said that while the company would
not usually take court action against an individual, Mr Wilson " had
continually insulted one of our most honoured products" and that this "had
really got on our goat ".
It is alleged in the Sony summons, that Mr Wilson has been carrying on
a campaign of defamation for several years against the Sony CDP 101 compact
disc player. This was the first such machine released in the world in 1983.
Mr Yamiguchi explained that the Sony company would not be seeking
damages from Mr Wilson since he has no significant resources to pay for the
injuries he has caused. However, they were instead seeking an order from the
court to compel Mr Wilson to cease and desist from his insults directed at
this and any other honourable Sony product.
Further, and in order to punish Mr Wilson, Mr Yamiguchi said: " Sony
is seeking another order that he be compelled to sit and listen to a CDP 101
playing the same disc over and over for a minimum of 12 hours per day for
a period of not less than three months. "
" This is not to say there is anything at all wrong with the sound of
the CDP 101" assured Mr Yamiguchi, "but as Mr Wilson clearly has a
pathological aversion to the machine it will be a punishment in the
traditional Japanese manner ".
Mr Wilson has been contacted and indicates that he intends to defend the
action vigorously. His lawyer, a Mr P Stein, asserted that the second order
being sought by Sony was illegal. " Being forced to endure a CDP 101 for 12
hours a day constitutes cruel and unusual punishment - even if used with
an
ME amplifier " said the determined Mr Stein.
We will be following this story very closely and report on any
developments.

BTW:
I purchased a Sony CDP 101 soon as they arrived in Sydney in May 1983.
I still have it and it works absolutely fine.
One of the best CD players ever made.
No over sampling, 100dB/oct mechanical filters and THD too low to even
measure.
