Hi all,

I am on the lookout for a R/P TV and I think I have settled on this
4:3 model as the 16:9 models are sooooooooo much more expensive.

Does anyone have any +ve or -ve comments about these machines? Also is
their anyone in Melbourne that can do me a good deal on one of these
machines?

Again, I am not sold on the idea that this is the right machine but I
am quite impressed nonetheless. Any suggestions will be much
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Henry

I have the 50'' brother to the 43'' & I find that visitors, who also have
RPTVs, (not Tosh), comment on the clarity of my set. I was not a fan of RPTV
until the latest generation of sets have been released.

I also have the Toshiba 50N9UXA......and believe me, the brightness and
image clarity rivals that of a decent quality TV.

I do have a couple of small gripes though. The first is that I cannot use
the splitscreen functions with Foxtel (though I fully understand and
appreciate why I cant use it, it would be nice....).

Second is that my red tones dont seem to be quite right. It might be that
I just need to fiddle around more with the tone and color levels to get
the right saturation, but I havent got a level I'm completely happy with
yet

And third is that aliasing is pretty damned obvious on some of my
DVD's....especially my Region 1's (Saving Pvt Ryan is the worst for me).

But all in all.....the 50" gets the big thumbs up. And I like the styling
of the 43" as well......that thing really looks the part =)

If you are in Melbourne did you read the Age Green Guide, I think Tivoli
Hi-Fi
is offering a cash price of around $4200 for them, but I think you may like
to
try Nasonic ( on Victoria St, Richmond) they always give you very good
price.
I personally think you can get this TV for about $4000. The Toshiba 43N9UXA
is very good RPTV, it won the RPTV of year from Sound & Image magazine this
year, the only alternative to this TV might be the Hitachi 46' RPTV and of
the
other set I have seen, you can pretty much forget about them, the picture
resolution
on Sony 41' or even 48' RPTV is just not up to scratch, the colour on the
Panasonic
is just not natural. I agree with Robby's assessment on Tosh RPTV, they are
amoung
the best around, the only brand that even comes close to Tosh is the
Hitachi, the quality
between these two is really a toss of coin.

I have done some research and compared the picture quality of the major
brands. Toshiba and Hitachi are probably the best. Sony not good enough,
Panasonic is unnatural. I have just placed order on a 50" Hitachi
(delievery in a few days) for the reasons that it has 1000 lines horizontal
(for future HDTV), tougher built and better sound quality, automatic
convergence, mat screen, and the good price. I currently have a Hitachi
68cm TV, the surround sound of it is fantastic. Will keep you informed when
it is delivered, I can't wait.

For 50' RPTV I still recommend you the same Toshiba or Hitachi, I am
not so sure about the Hitachi, I think it may be priced at just below $5500,
the Toshiba set I have heard the price of this set has been reduce to $5000
at the Melbourne Home Entertainment show from a sales personl of Vaf
research, I recommend you try Nasonic ( on Victoria St) at Richmond for a
fine price.
( when I approached last year Tosh RPTV was selling at $5999 by other
dealers but
they could sell them for $5500.)

Nice choice, considering Panasonic is actually both more expensive than
both Hitachi
and Toshiba and with its pastel picture, I am surprise why there are still
people drawing
by its claim of 100Hz set. Hitachi and Toshiba are the market leader in
RPTV, Panasonic
with its redish colour and sony with its fuzzy and unclear image are still
way behind.
