"The Australian Drinking Water Guidelines states that atrazine should
not be in drinking water.

The APVMA have repeatedly stated that atrazine contamination is not a
*real* issue as *most* Australians do not drink groundwater and only
drink from protected water catchments; this is obviously incorrect for
the whole of Tasmania (and most of Australia)".

Spot the fob-off.

The APVMA is obviously *unaware* that many people drink bottled water
*precisely* to avoid impurities in tap water. Yet this gubbermint
department has decided - with consultation apparently - that if "most"
of us drink tap water then *all* of us should.

Atrazine is banned in the EU as a suspected carcinogen.

Why triazines and EDCs should be banned

"In particular, atrazine inhibits production of testosterone (the male
sex hormone) and induces estrogen production (the female sex hormone),
upsetting the balance between these two hormones. This effect of
atrazine has been observed and published in fish [1, 2], amphibians [3,
4], reptiles [5, 6], and mammals [7-14]. The result is chemical
castration (demasculinization) and feminization".

An August 2009 article that somehow is news right now?

Yep, pity the "gubbermint" - and the rest of the idiots who bag any
environmental control - don't listen to those pesky Greens who are
always against this sort of stuff, eh?

That article is relevant right *now* because nothing has changed:
1. Atrazine is still widely used
2. Atrazine is still suspected of being carcinogeneic
3. Atrazine is still banned in the EU - and allowed in Australia
4. The APVMA has not changed their position *despite* the fact that most
bottled water *still* comes from groundwater

Conclusion:
It is still the case that this government department doesn't give a shit
about people who drink bottled water.

Should an issue cease to have interest because a government department
DID NOTHING about it in 2 years?

Pity the population, assailed with crap like 'carbon' tax when there are
*real* life-threatening issues out there - like atrazine.

Or better still, ask Peter Garrett about hexachlorobenzene (HCB)
contaminating his constituency, planned to be cleaned up by Labor since
1995.

Not news - still polluting Kingsford-Smith, still threatening peoples'
lives - yet all we ever hear about is the non-problem called 'global
warming'. Labor idiots.

No legislation can compensate people for their own stupidity.

(Commercial sale of) bottled water should be banned outright.

The stupid would whinge that was a violation of their human rights.

Stuff 'em.

People who buy bottled water are the self-selected, stupidest, most
irredeemably addicted victims of the consumerist economic system.

Mostly. But don't you think culling them with cancer is a bit extreme?

Atrazine is widely used as a herbicide. You have far higher chances having
it in your morning cereals than in your water, even ground water.
