Hi all. I have bought a low end laptop and am trying to get Linux to
run on it,currently my graphics are not supported on linux but it will
run in narative modes i found out after installing Linux Mint 12 and
having it work for a couple days then freeze at the login screen.

Odd behaviour UPLOAD

I have never seen this problem before.
Just installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a Toshiba laptop. 4 core CPU,
6 MB DRAM, 500MB disk, all empty and vanilla.
Tied into the network via a Belkin wireless router, then into
the net.
Downloads work fine, I am having unusual problems with uploads
under certain circumstances.... more »

Make sure it hasn't started up as a 'tray icon'.

Ok.
Run qbittorrent in a terminal and google any error messages it produces.
A successful run looks like this:

Port 4001 held open by squid proxy

Running Zenmap, shows
"4001/tcp open http-proxy Squid webproxy"
I need that port for another service.
Not using squid, so I did a complete removal in Synaptic and rebooted.
Zenmap still gave the same above results.
Question is, how can I close that port so that it is available to the other... more »

Lubuntu 11.10; Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Ethernet card; Realtek RTL8191SE
Wireless Lan 802.11n PCI-E NIC. Toshiba laptop Satellite T110.
Until this morning, no connection issues either by wireless or
Ethernet.

Burnt .avi file to DVD, can't play in Blue Ray player to tv.

Hi Guys,
What format does an .avi movie burnt onto DVD (Lubuntu 11.10) have to be to play on home tv through a DVD player?
Having trouble getting the DVD player to recognise this format.
At present the DVD (Blue Ray) player says "unable to recognise media".
If the file has to be converted, what is the best software for this?... more »
