This one has 120k on the clock like they all seem to have,and is
pretty much unoptioned,good
its not a g-string car.

Our ex drummer has a first series basic 1.3 manual. It's never put a foot
wrong except for the speedo - high below 45Km/H and low above (100
indicated was over 120) - replaced under warranty and speeding fine
cancelled on appeal. I think he'd buy another one. The only thing I really
dislike in them is the expanses of hard plastic. Cheers

I've only read positive things about the Getz, don't personally know of
any particular bad points - not that I've had much to do with them.
120K is on the high side for a 5 y/o car though - at least check that it
has a decent (and verifiable) service history with everything that
should have been done, has been done (i.e belts).

Otherwise....
Check that the coolant is healthy (04 is old enough to have incurred
plenty of damage if it isn't).
Verify that the timing belt's been replaced according to schedule.
Test for CV wear when you drive it.

I'd add that they're a great little car with good road manners (they handle
exceptionally well for what they are), are well equipped and well built, and
are fairly fault free and aren't generally known for any particular issues.
We've had 2 '04 models in our family (still have one) and they've both been
problem free reliable little cars.
They have quite comfortable front seats making them a good long distance
drive (I took one of ours to Sydney and back when it was new and found it to
be less tiresome than a lot of others), are as cheap as piss to run and are
generally a very good little commuter for the money. On the down side
standard brake pad material fades incredibly quickly, but that's about the
only issue I've ever noticed with them.
Unless you're getting it incredibly cheap I'd look around for something with
less mileage as they're definitely out there.

200,000 with not much beyond routine servicing . Why shouldn't a Getz?

Hyundai had a full page add in the paper here today saying sorry for their
quality standards.

When they started apearing the resale value was the worst of almost any car
available, I don't think it's quite as bad now.
The advert was actually apoligising to the owners of other car makes for
them having purchased poorly built cars. The add claimed that Hyundai were
in the top 5 in a poll of satisfied customers after 30 days. Toyota were
below them.
Doesn't matter how happy people are after 30 days here, hit a few potholes
and see how it goes. A Rav4 is about the equivelent of a Getz here as road
conditions just don't allow for cars with small wheels and low clearances.
