give a 3 year/36,000 mile (57,600km) new car warranty. For rust it is 6
years/100,000 miles (160,000km).

Unless you buy a yank car.. 3yr/60Kkm on Chryslers but that doesn't
stop them having a very good goodwill program. Many owners are seeing
benefits of that when they're way out of the paper warranty.
FWIW in the UK I think they have a 3yr/100K mile warranty on the same
cars!

For most private users, it's the number of years that's more important.
I sold my last car at 5 years of age and it only did 51,000 km. Of
course, it's 2 years over the 3 year warranty period but still 9000 km
under the mileage specified.

I'm around the 3.5 year mark and have done around 107000km. At the
3yr mark I was around 90000km (ye I've driven a lot in the last 6
months)
Our other car is at 44000km in around 18 months and will go out of
warranty at around the 2 year mark (thanks to the 60000km warranty)
