Your thoughtfulness is appreciated Athol. Thank you.

There is an overwhelming sadness when a father and/or mother
grieves for a son/daughters demise. It happened to a close
family member and he has been tormented by it for a few
decades now.

If you have contact with Patricks father in the near future,
pass on our sincerest condolences please.

It's very sad news, even if it doesn't come as a complete surprise.
Thanks for passing it on.

Patrick's been a fixture here for a very long time and a lot of us
will certainly remember him the way he once was. His last post was
23rd October AFAIK.

I wouldn't have wished his demons on anyone, whoever's making they may

I'm sensing some hostility here, and have a feeling you're not very pleased
with me for some reason? :)

Get over yourself you mouth breathing retard. Everyone knew I didn't care
for Pat, including Patrick himself, and he never had any particular love for
me either. Whatever his problems were the amount of shit he copped from me
was miniscule compared to crap he brought on himself in other groups. *He*
was the cause of most of his issues as far as I could tell.

Thanks for telling us.

This is the second person that I know through online activities that has had
a mental illness and has (likely) topped themselves this year. The other was
an online friend which admittedly Patrick wasn't but still...
Mental illness with symptomatic depression must be horrible to have to live
and try to deal with.

Patrick did not like the idea of being medicated for his depression or for

monitor his moods, things may have been different. It seems he slipped
through the cracks.

They're not so much cracks as gaping holes. People are rarely
institutionalised these days and yet people with mental health issues cannot
be relied on to self medicate because of the nature of their illness. Most
may be quite harmless to others but there are some real crackpots out there
too.

To be honest, and I may be wrong but anyway, I thought Patrick's "mental
illness" was total bullshit and just a game he liked to play. I suspect his
real problem was booze, and that he was a severe alcoholic.

I have no idea how he died, and I really don't care to be frank, but I think
all this split personality stuff he was going on with in the last few months
was nothing but total crap.

If you'd been around here longer than ten minutes and had enough brains to
*not* think you had everyone pegged in that time, you'd *know* that the
person who made the most threats about ending Pat's life was Pat. You're sad
that he's dead but I'm not. He *wanted* to die young and achieved what he

Yeah,..alcoholics are difficult to get help across to. The grog acts as an
aid to their meloncholia. Bit like a circle,..feel shithouse, drink grog,
feel more shithouse, drink more....well we know where it ends up.

I'm not normally depressed at all but tonight both the missus and I (yes both
the missus, feral) feel a little saddened by his passing although I don't think
he could have been helped by any of us or anyone for that matter.

On a lighter note, he could have given that bottle of vodka to me to drink and
we'd all have the presence of his company.
The last bottle of vodka I drank I said to the missus this is a bit pissweak,
they must be watering it down. She said you are probably immune to it.

Thanks for sharing the news Athol. I've been on-and-off with aus.cars
for a few months so I didn't notice his sudden absence.

As others have said, and being a parent myself, I do feel deeply for
his dad. As for Pat himself I know he simply got what he wanted - out.
It's unfortunate that he did suffer from depression, sure, but I don't
think there's any real cure for that other than what can come from
within. In this case it wasn't to be.

He helped me a lot with my own Hilux and was a very generous person
(the entire exhaust system and ute 'door' currently on my Hilux was a
gift from him), as long as he didn't consider you to be part of the
cancer of earth :)

I've read this whole thread and I can appreciate the comments both
caring and harsh-reality (except for that fuckwit know-all 'jonz'),
but if you met Patrick in real life he really wasn't some weird
annoying freak. I think aus.cars and whatever other newsgroups were
just his escape. Which, at times, was fucking annoying for the rest of
us :)

RIP Pat.

Thank you. Please pass on my condolences to his father, along with
everyone else's. I hope he found peace at the end and not just release.

Hopefully, this will show up *eventually*. I gave up trying to post a few
days ago 'cos everything from here seems to queued up behind a few
'failure to connects' and locked out. At least I can still read updates
from others this time, unlike when it happened a couple of years ago.

Dissociative identities are developed before the age of eight.

Surprising how people who consider themselves normal cannot
grasp the fact that there are people less fortunate than them,
that they should reach out to and embrace. No, I guess it's
easier to score peer points with (so called) wit.

And sometimes a persons lot in life is to act as an example to others, jonz
strikes me as being one of those people. So were not really poking fun at
the less fortunate but rather providing a community service by pointing
people in his general direction and tsk tsking a lot :-)

And sometimes what someone writes is not really the truth,
sometimes the truth lies somewhere between the lines. tsk tsk.

I doubt jonz could spell "truth" let alone grasp its meaning :-)
and expecting him to read between the lines would be akin to pulling a
splinter out of a fleas arse with a crowbar.
