It finally happened. I was driving through the Sydney Harbour Bridge this
morning and I saw a white WRX in NSW Police markings complete with the red
and blue lights on the roof. It was a magnificent looking beastie.

Makes me wonder though, do the cops fight over who gets to drive it? Is
kind of like Mad Max who gets the pride of the police fleet? I Wonder how
many the police bought?

I read that only 15 drivers of the 1XX drivers in the Highway patrol
were going to be trained to drive them. I believe they are getting 8
or 10?

I'm in Melboune and I can't remember the last reported incident of any
crime at all (esp. ramraid) involving a WRX. Speeding being the obvious
exception.

I think it's just a Subie marketing / insurance firm conspiracy.

Just spoke to my sister in law about these as shes a Federal Cop in
Canberra, and HAD WRX's a while back, but decided to get rid of them
due to mechanical unreliability, expense of fixing them and high
initial purchase cost (probably don't give as big a discount as
Ford/Holden), they are now back to XR6/8's.

They would've been manuals back then, I imagine; and probably without
turbo-timers too. So I can imagine they would have turbo coked-solid and
stuffed 2nd gear within weeks; even cops that aren't in a hurry cane
cars!

Yep, I reckon that would be true; Falcodores are ridiculously cheap for
government departments, even local government even though they have to
pay sales tax on them now!

I have heard the same thing. Falcodores seem to go over medium strips
with more reliability. A standard WRX falls to bits after a while where
as a falcodore can stick together just that little bit longer to give
the govt. a bit more value. As if they don't get enough money out of us
already. BASTARDS!!! :-)

Theives seem to love WRX's, not for use in ram raids, just getting away
in.

What are our cops chasing them for anyway? It only results in another
road death. If it's just a theif, no problems, but they usually kill a
by-stander.

Mike.

Just had a further chat with her and yep they are manuals and she used
to drive them for a while, Subaru apparently gave the cops them for
test persuit vehicles, they in fact still have them but are now used
for general duties cars along with V6 Camrys.

Holden have also given them 'test persuit Commodores' where she is
based and they have also been consigned to general duties, XR6/8's are
the choice car much to the disgust of many Holden fan cops who drive
them. Apparently these 'Holden fan cops' thrash the XR's to try and
prove they are unreliable!!!!, but guess what, it doesn't work ;-)

Geez, you are even bad at sarcasm....you just dont stop being crap do you?

And anyway, they shouldnt chase thieves if it endangers innocent
bystanders' lives as a sustained high speed chase does...especially if the
thieves are in a WRX (I read in the local paper that recently the police
were outrun twice in one night by the same stolen WRX).

And do you think these guys are going to slow down just because the
cops aren't actively chasing them?

Do you think these guys are going to not still kill people even if the
police are not involved?

The fact remains that the Police are here to stop criminals and arrest
them, not let them get away because the criminals are driving WRX's.
Next you're going to say that we shouldn't chase criminals/others in
other cars like Porsche, Ferrari etc, but it's ok to chase people in
Falcons etc.

Police also need to look more at other ways of stopping the cars,
things like the strips they deploy on the roads overseas, harpoons
like they use in Finland and so on.

Harpoons? They ever miss and catch themselves a corpse? Why not just
unload several clips from an MP5 at the car? Bound to stop it... sure would
scare thieves a little.

True - provided people use them. So many people are in too much of a
hurry they don't use them - just leave them sitting on the floor of
the car. Fat lot of good it's going to do there ...

Then again, not many insurers give discounts for alarms anymore. I
see my latest RACQ-GIO statement mentions "a discount for an approved
alarm", but I can't see any discount. The last thing they did was
bump my premium up ... weird discount that one. Unless I got a
discount on the premium increase or something ;-)

I'm not sure how many WRX police cars there are in NSW but this is the same
car that I see very often near my work.

This particular car was on the front page of the local news paper with some
bad ass cop standing next to it like King Shit! (As you would)

I notice that front and rear they have Dunlop stickers, I wonder what
that's all about.

Personally I think they would look pretty cheeky with "Fear This" stickers
:)
