I'm looking for a backlit compass to mount at the top of my windscreen,
maybe off the rear vision mirror mount stalk. Anyone know of any like this?
The ones I've seen are all designed to sit on the dash. Thanks,

An aircraft standby compass might be the go. Only potential issue would be
whether there'd be enough adjustment available to calibrate it (due to the
steel body of your car). Should be OK though.

The C2400 type are about 2" diameter.

An aircraft parts shop (eg Aviall) at your local airport(?) will either have
them in stock, or would be able to get one in for you.

Alternatively, have a look at your local marine shop. There's some cute
little ones that can be installed with the mount at the top.

Pop into your local 4x4 wreckers and pull the pod from the top of a Surf.
Then you get all the compass and level gauges and all back lit. Recover in
vynal to match yoru interior and away ya go.

I use a marine compass with a stick on base just under the rear view
mirror, got it at witworth marine for $40

very handy, easy to loose situational awareness in what direction your
heading..compass helps to orintaite your map and head

I learnt to use a compass map clock and oddtometer, gps only a aid,
primary navigation still the old way for me

My 1985 Surf had one. Also did my 85, and me mates 88 and my brothers 87.
All imports mind you.
