Visited the new falls lookout on the Coomera circuit earlier this
week. It's a beaut structure - sad about its positioning. It's a
fair bit higher than the top of the Coomera Falls, & quite close to
them. So you're looking *down* on them instead of across to them.
Also, since closer around the gorge, you can no longer see up into the
upper gorge & so can't see the upper (smaller) set of falls at all.
Outstanding view of Yarrabilgong Falls though.

That's as may be, Dave - I didn't see the old structure and only walked the
Coomera Circuit in early April this year. But the new lookout structure is
large - able to accommodate hordes of people ( yes I know, a pain, but this
is a very popular area) and has a pretty wonderful view.

For those of you who don't know - the Coomera Circuit (17.skims) is an
exceptionally beautiful walk from Binna Burra. The track was closed for a
few years after landslides, but reopened about a year ago.

After you pass the new lookout platform (something like 3 kms from the start
of the track) you have to cross the creek (Coomera River) something like 17
times, but the variety of falls and cascades, and the depth of the Coomera
Crevice with water sluicing down from several sides, is quite amazing.

If you are at Binna Burra with only a day or so to do some walks, I reckon
the best two are the Daves Creek Circuit (12 kms) and the Coomera Circuit.

And Shipstern Range, with a diversion down to Turtle Rock!

Ships Stern is a wonderful walk indeed, but long - 23-24 kms with side trip
to Lower Ballenjui Falls, and longer than the Border Track walk from Binna
Burra to O'Reillys. With the ups and downs on the track, it's a tiring
day. But you pass through subtropical rainforest, clifftop heath and
sandstone flora, magnificent piccabeen (bangalow) palms and brush box in
Hidden Valley, and more rainforest around Ballenjui Falls. Very nice.

The Coomera Circuit has lots of Antarctic beech in its southern reaches.

I love the rainforest walks at O'Reillys too - especially the beech forest
and cascades on the Albert River Circuit, Toolona Creek circuit and West
Canungra Creek circuit. Great views from atop the cliffs across to Mt
Warning.

Dont you need a rope to get down, several month ago I tried to get
up there & found it a bit iffy without a rope...

Cheers George.

We did it OK without ropes. But that was ages ago when I was
younger and even sillier. And I'd probably balk at it today -
even with ropes.

Yep, climbed up there recently. Kinda scary, but we didn't use the
rope we had. Surprisingly high.

Not sure I'd like to go down without an abseil (which, of course,
is illegal in this park).
