Colleagues, I am investigating doing the Newnes to Mt Dawson caves two
day walk (Walk No. 43 in Bushwalks in the Sydney Region, Vol 1, 6th
Ed, p 76) but am wondering why the 7km per day trip is rated as Hard.
Any suggestions?
Is the navigation difficult? (We will have a basic garmin e-trex and
topo maps etc.)
Do you have to climb dangerous pagodas? Is it necessary to climb the
Pagoda of Death?
Is it easy to find the track?
Any other advice about the walk?
TIA,
Evan B

Hi Evan,

I would say the route finding is the tricky bit perhaps, finding your
way off things (like small cliffs) or around things, etc. Some
scrubby bits if you stray off the route too. I wouldn't call it a
"track" so much as a negotiable route. No you don't have to climb the
Pagoda of Death (but it's fun)
