I'm reading Keats and Fox's book, "The Upper Gross Valley". They use
tape for hand-over-hand scrambling (and presumably pack hauling) when
I take 10m or so of thin rope. I assume they're using double layer tape
(a cylinder of tape flattened), rather than single layer seat belt tape
which has hard/sharp edges.

I expect it's easier to throw a bundle of soft tape into your pack,
without having to coil it, than it is to coil and uncoil rope. Any idea
if tape is any better than rope, or is it just Keat's and Fox's personal
preference?

Thanks Joe

Tape is easier to hang on to than rope! (IMHO)
It is what most of us commonly use.

Dunno, but I think they are talking abut 25 mm (1") webbing. ie, flat stuff
like the 50 mm seat belt webbing.

Cheers

Having walked with them a few times, 25mm tube tape, as you surmised.
It's easier to wrap around your hand than a rope if you're after extra grip.
